INGRID FUNK

It is with sadness we announce the passing of MRS. INGRID FUNK, at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on September 1, 2013 at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her sister Helene, her children Kathryn, Harvey (Connie), Pat, Debby (Paul), Marilyn (Joe), and Doug (Suzanne) and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Her grandchildren Alex, Jack, Jessie, Sam, Nicole, Johanna, Leanna, and Jillian brought her great joy and laughter. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, brothers and sisters Ollie, Margaret, Knud, Andrew, Eric, Tommy, Marie, and Esther. Her story began on December 25, 1920, in Wayne, Alberta. She grew up during the ‘dirty thirties’ in the Drumheller area, and joined the army when the war started. She proudly served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during the war as a Sergeant in Alberta, with her term ending at Suffield. She met Henry (Hank) in Lethbridge after the war, and spent the next 24 years in postings across Canada with the RCAF. As a widow, she settled in Lethbridge and worked as a Receptionist at the Lethbridge Auxiliary Hospital until her retirement. She cared for the residents and they in turn loved her.
Ingrid greatly enjoyed the outdoors, reading, crosswords, debating politics, and playing cards and visiting casinos with her sisters. Family was very important to Ingrid and she had an open heart and would do anything to help others. She had a special place in her heart for animals. Ingrid was well-cared for during her last two years at West Highlands and staff there appreciated, as we all did, her humor, ready wit and quick smile. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB (www.cnib.ca). Honoured to serve the family, CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1K 7B1. Telephone (403) 381-7777. E-mail: care@cornerstonefh.ca
