Naatsikapo'tamissoo - (Two People Coming Over the Mountain) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ALBERT HUNT. Albert passed away peacefully at St Michael's Home Care on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
Albert was born November 9, 1947 on the Blood Reserve. He attended St Paul's Residential School. After leaving residential school, he began working in numerous establishments. Albert was a Class 1 truck driver, security guard, medical transportation driver, contractor, a farmer and a rancher. He was a champion Pow-wow singer with Big Corner Post Singers and traditional dancer at many Pow-wows across Canada and USA. Albert and his wife Elizabeth won a trip to Schmitzen Pow-wow where he danced against the world's best traditional dancers. Albert and Elizabeth were well known for their beadwork and arts and crafts. He also made bull ropes.
Albert enjoyed playing Bingo and visiting with his bingo friends. Another pastime he loved was Rodeos, where he participated in the bareback and steer wrestling events, and was a well-known wild horse racer as well. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing hockey, fastball, and football. Above all, his passion was always hockey. He enjoyed watching his son Calvert play goal, and was an avid fan of the Calgary Flames, Calgary Stampeders, Stampede Wrestling, NHL hockey, PBR, rodeo, chuckwagons, and football. His booming voice could be heard throughout the hockey arenas. So much so that his sons felt embarrassed at how loud he was. Albert was known for his contagious laughter and sense of humour. He loved to tease and joke, even laughing at his own jokes. Albert was with his wife Elizabeth for 47 years. They married in 1997 (25 years). Together they had three boys and 11 grandchildren. They also have numerous traditional adopted children and grandchildren.
Albert was a very loving and caring man. He would support his sons in their activities; Darren with his football, Andy with his singing and Calvert in hockey and Pow-wows. His sons followed their dad's footsteps into the Pow-wow circle with their singing and dancing. He always loved having his grandchildren around as they brought him much joy.
Albert was a very dedicated society member of the Brave Dogs and Horn societies. He was also a singer for Siksika Horn Society. Elizabeth and Albert were the oldest Brave Dog members (since the 1970's) and had a very strong spiritual connection and followed the traditional ways of life.
Albert is survived by his wife of 47 years Elizabeth, his sons: Darren, Andy, Calvert (Joni); grandchildren: Hillary, Savannah, Ryan, Kailie, Larissa, Canyon, Calvert Jr, Cyler, Ocean, Guy and Wyatt; adopted children: Gaylene Eagle Speaker, Cecilia Eagle Speaker, Jade McHugh, Michelle Spear Chief, Clement Brave Rock, Willy Wolfchild, Cynthia No Chief, TJ Wadsworth, Albert Wolfchild, Everett Wolf Child John Oka, Warren Hunt, Cole Healy and Kenny Standing Rock.
