He is the loving father of Ron (Kathy) Overes, Nancy (Rick) Stoperski, David Overes and Mark (Amy) Overes, all of Lethbridge; grandfather to six, and great-grandfather to nine. He is also survived by his sister Audrey (Donald) Muyers of Edmonton and numerous extended family and friends. Besides his loving wife of 57 years, Hubert was predeceased by his parents Simon and Catharina Overes, as well as 11 brothers and sisters.

Huub, as he was affectionately known, was born in De Hoef, Holland, in March of 1935, and immigrated to Canada in 1952.

He married the love of his life, Marjorie. Together, they dedicated their lives to raising their four children in the Catholic faith, while attending Our Lady of the Assumption Church for over 60 years.

Dad will always be remembered for his quiet and gentle demeanor. He had many passions, including crib, camping, fishing, and fixing and restoring vehicles. He also spent many peaceful hours tending to his flowers and watching the birds.

Together with Mom, their hearts and home were always open to anyone in need or simply for a bottomless cup of coffee and conversation.

There are not enough words to describe the kind of man he was. The love in his heart and the many memories he created will forever live in our hearts, minds, and through the stories told. He will be forever remembered. We will miss you, Dad.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating.
