HOVAN, MARY ELIZABETH

MARY ELIZABETH HOVAN February 21, 1921 - May 15, 2010

Mary Elizabeth Hovan (nee Donkin), the beloved wife of the late Albert Hovan, passed away on May 15, 2010 in Lethbridge at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband Al, her son David and grandson Michael.

She survived by her brother Bob Donkin, son Tom (Sharon), granddaughters; Chrissy (Jacob) Roecker of Elgin, Oklahoma, Kimmie (Scott) Ully of Lethbridge, and Dian (David) Stewart of Thatcher, Arizona, 6 great grandchildren: Eliza, Daniel, Rainey, and Michael Roecker, and Makynna and Oryn Ully, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was born and raised in Frank, Alberta where she met Al. When WWII broke out, Al joined the army and was stationed in Petawawa, Ontario. Mary followed and they were married in Pembroke. Shortly after, Al was sent overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Mary returned to Lethbridge to live and work. When Al returned they took up residence in Lethbridge where they raised their family. Mary worked for several businesses in the city and eventually retired as switchboard operator and admitting clerk from the Municipal Hospital just before it was closed. Mary was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the UTU.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with Canon James Robinson officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honour to the CNIB, 410 Stafford Drive South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2L2.
