HOOGERDYK, DICK

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The Lord took to Himself into eternal rest Dirk Hoogerdyk on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 after a brief illness. Dirk was born June 6, 1940 in Delft, the Netherlands as fifth son to Maarten and Marrigje Hoogerdyk. The family immigrated to Canada and arrived in Lethbridge on May 15, 1952. Dick started working for Ed Bastedo in 1955 and worked there until November 1962 when he started Harp Upholstery in Taber. Harp Furniture acquired Holland’s Draperies in 1978 and moved to the present location in 1980 operating under the name Holland’s. Dick enjoyed his work, relating with his clients and desiring to do all to glorify his Lord. Rika, his wife, supported him throughout their married life in all his endeavours. Dick and Rika enjoyed travelling, especially in the mountains, appreciating the wonders and majesty of God’s creation. They loved to sing and listen to music expressing the dependence on their saviour Jesus Christ. He is the loving father of Nancy Hoogerdyk, Agnes (Rob) Vanspronsen, Winston (Margriet) Hoogerdyk and Eleanor (Gordon) Van Dasselaar, all of Lethbridge, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Dick is also survived by his brothers: Herman (Ann) Hoogerdijk of Lethbridge, Cornelis (Mina) Hoogerdijk of Coaldale, Leonard (Tini) Hoogerdijk of Chilliwack, B.C, sister-in-law Marte Hoogerdijk of Nanaimo, B.C, and numerous nieces and nephews.
