Hendry, Evelyn Anna
It is with great sadness that the family of EVELYN ANNA LOUISE HENDRY announces her passing on August 27th, 2015, at the age of 85 years. Evelyn was born January 29th, 1930, in Calgary to Mary Louise Campbell and Kenneth George Campbell. She spent the majority of her working career in the oil industry in Calgary as an executive assistant to senior management.Evelyn dearly loved the prairies she grew up on and spent her early life in Mundare, Vegreville, and Edmonton before returning with her parents and sister to Calgary. Evelyn valued her connection with aunts, uncles, cousins, and myriad extended family and delighted in tracking and documenting her family tree. She was married in 1954 to Donald Hendry and moved back to his native Scotland for three years with their infant daughter Pat, which contributed to her pride in her Scottish heritage.Shortly before her retirement, she relocated to the small town of Raymond and fell in love with the history and people. She volunteered countless hours of time with the Raymond and District Historical Society, the Ag Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Raymond Hospital, and the Canadian Cancer Society. Her work as president of the Historical Society led her to write the book "Veterans' Voices" in 2001, an endeavour that won her a medal of honour from the Canadian Legion.Evelyn is survived by her daughter Patricia Hendry (Arthur), granddaughter Kirsten Skow, sister Alice Gillis (Moe), niece Leslie (Phil), and nephews Moe (Yumiko), Kenn (Deanna), Scott, and David. The Funeral Service will be held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, TAYLOR STREET CHAPEL, 4th Street W and 2nd Street N, Raymond, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., with Bishop Gregory Smith officiating. We wish to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Evelyn Hendry. Evelyn was a dear friend of our mother/mother-in-law, Eileen Chamberlain of Athabasca, Alberta. The two grew up together and remained friends all their lives. We got to know Evelyn through Eileen and had numerous visits with her in Athabasca, at Baptiste Lake and in Lethbridge. Her warm and friendly nature, made her a pleasure to spend time with. We will always remember our conversations about family, friends, birds, the Raymond community, and the amazing achievements of the Raymond high school sports teams. Evelyn was genuinely interested in our children's achievements as well, and we appreciated that support. In later years we didn't see Evelyn as much, but got reports of how she was doing from Eileen. Evelyn also sent newspaper clippings occasionally to update us on the Raymond football and basketball programs. We will miss visits with Evelyn and these periodic updates. God Bless Evelyn's memory, and God Bless her family and friends, especially during this sad time of loss. Brian
1 September 2015 I am very sad to hear of my dear cousin, Evelyn`s, passing. Of a younger generation, growing up in Seattle, WA I didn`t have the opportunity of getting to know Evelyn, but as I got older I became more interested in my roots on my Canadian mother, Alice Campbell`s, side of the family. It was in Evelyn`s later years that we grew close, mostly through email correspondences, with her eagerly sharing with me her vast knowledge of her/our Family History and sharing the most interesting personal insight and anecdotes of different family members both here and passed. We shared a very beautiful bond, even though she lived in a small Alberta Prairie Town and I living in Himeji City, JPN. I in turn would share with her some of what my early life memories were of my Mum and her Canadian Family, also what my life was like living in Japan. It was a special long distance bond we shared, and I was always grateful for her answering my many questions and patiently sending me so many old archived family photos to add to my Family Tree knowledge. Even though her health condition had worsened over time and our communications became less frequent, I often thought kindly of my Dear Cousin Evelyn, sending her a Healing Prayer of Gratitude. Evelyn lived a long and fruitful life, making many good friends and helping so many people, like me, along her life`s journey. I`m blessed to have known you, Evelyn, thank you for being my good friend and mentor. Even though I/we will greatly miss you, you can now peacefully enjoy sharing all your wonderful insights and humorous stories with our ancestors who welcome your Great Spirit. Your Distant Cousin, but not so far away, Taro Starbuck (Himeji, Hyogo, JPN)
