Heibert, Anne

ANNE HEIBERT passed away with grace and dignity on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit in Lethbridge, surrounded by her family, after a full and happy 90 years of life. Anne was born is Steinbach, Manitoba, in 1919, the second youngest of the six children of Marie and George Goossen. She was baptized in her early teen years in the river Seine, close to Ste. Anne, Manitoba. At the age of 20 she went to Guelph, Ontario, where she stayed with her brother Irvin and attended hairdressing school. In the late 1940s, she moved to Lethbridge, where she met and married Bill Heibert, who had been stationed at Pierce, Alberta, during the Second World War. They lived for 34 years in the home that Bill and his dad built on 14th Avenue South, and had 3 children, Gail, Lorne, and Gerald. Anne and Bill were founding members of McKillop United Church; Anne was very active with UCW, and helped Bill from time to time at the family business, Jack's TV. Anne's greatest joy was raising her family in a loving and nurturing environment. In 1986, Anne and Bill moved to Osoyoos, BC, where they had a very happy retirement in their lakefront home. When Bill passed away in January, 2006, Anne moved back to Lethbridge to be closer to her family. She lived at The View At Lethbridge for her last 3 years, and enjoyed her time surrounded by dear friends and companions. Anne is survived by her children, Gail (David) Green, Lorne Heibert, and Gerald Heibert (Ron Ellis), brother George (Eileen) Goossen, grandson Craig (Alana) Anderson, and great grand-daughters Katherine and Kristen Anderson-Bain. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, granddaughter Hilary Anderson, and 4 eldest siblings. Anne's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 15th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., with Reverend Cathy Coates and Reverend Trevor Potter co-officiants. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial tributes in her name to St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care, 1400 9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 4V5. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors and staff at Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Michael's Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care and support that they provided to Anne and her family in their time of need.
