HAYKO, LENA

Lena Hayko, 101, passed away to be with her Lord November 28, 2011. Predeceased by her dear husband Matt in October 1989. She is survived by one daughter Katherine, husband Steve Meszaros, son Edward (Joyce) Hayko, grandchildren Sherry & Greg Buchanan, Deanna Hayko, Dave & Connie Hasley, Lois & Cam VanRoon and five great grandchildren, Jenna, Joshua & Cody Hasley, Carter & Amy VanRoon. Also surviving are Lena’s sisters, Irene Czernick, Marion Field, Flossy Jijian. Predeceased by her sisters Florence Vatca, Annie Stan, Mary Nenson, Victoria Oltean, brothers Constantine, George & John Marcu. Lena was born at Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan July 12, 1910. Lena started to read the Bible & became a believer &was baptized in 1934. She attended the Viceroy Baptist Church in her younger years.

Lena possessed a great compassion for people & showed it in many tangible ways, phone calls, visits & sharing many loaves of homemade bread. You were never able to leave her home empty handed. She was a loyal friend to many & beloved mother & grandmother. Her family was blessed by her godly example of faith and love. We could always count on Mother’s prayers through any crisis or occasion in our lives.

Lena had many interests in life, gardening, baking, music, poetry and reading. She was always interested in people, politics, health and religion, an avid reader all her life complimenting her education. In lieu of Flowers, please make a donation in memory of Lena Hayko to the Fairmont Baptist Church Missions in Saskatoon.
