HARVENA WADSWORTH passed away at the Cardston Health Centre on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the age of 76 years. She leaves to mourn her children; Donna White Quills, Leonard White Quills, Karen Bottle, Jennifer (David) Weasel Head, Charlotte (Casey) White Quills, Desmond (Robin) White Quills, Kristal Small Face and Ian (Nicole) Wadsworth, adopted children; Rhonda (Charlie) Weasel Head and Lester and Virginia Tail Feathers, grandchildren she raised Craig and Todd Many Bears, Amber (Jason) White Quills, Tracy (Ricky) Vare and her Kipitaipokaa Nikita. She is also survived by her 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson Colten, her many adopted grandchildren, sister Sadie (Floyd) Wadsworth, brothers Lucius (Pam) Wadsworth and Melvin (Theresa) Wadsworth, numerous nieces and nephews, step-children; Pearline, Noreen, Tonya, Colleen, Marleen, Wes and Les Heavy Runner as well as other relatives including: Tail Feathers, Brave Rock’s, Weasel Moccasin’s and Wolf Leg’s. She was predeceased by her parents William and Annie Wadsworth, brothers Phillip, William Jr. and Steven, sisters Lucy and Bernice Wadsworth, children Vivian (Bunny), Wendy and Steven White Quills and grandson Benjamin White Quills. Harvena grew up in the Bull Horn area until she was 7 years old, she then went to St. Paul’s Residential School until the age of 13. From there she lived with her mother A’poiaakii Annie Wadsworth (nee Moon Calf). In her late teens she met and married Maurice White Quills and resided in the Bull Horn area and raised their nine children. After their children left home she moved on and resided in Cardston until her passing. Her main hobbies while growing up were horseback riding, sewing, cooking and helping to raise her siblings. She was a very religious and spiritual woman who attended church every Sunday and was a member of the Anglican Church Women’s Group and Vestry. She was very supportive for her family’s involvement in the Sundance and pow-wow trail. Her beliefs and values carried on in her home life, she had many friends and acquaintances who came to call her ‘gramma’. She was a talented seamstress and could make and design anything achievable. Her last accomplished project was a full traditional buckskin outfit for her nephew, former Head Chief Roy Fox, which she completed in May 2007. She was also a bus driver for the Blood Tribe Bus Co-op for 30 years and retired in 2003. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and their endeavors and supported them in any and all ways possible. She was a loving and caring person and she went out of her way to help those around her. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She had many close friends but her dearest friend since childhood, the late Christine McHugh (Tallow) was someone she spoke of often and reminisced about their life together. A Funeral Service will be held at ST. PAUL’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, Cardston on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. Interment to follow at the Blood Band Cemetery, Blood Reserve. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7 for Breast Cancer Research.
