Harrowing, Colin R.

10 July 1932 - 3 September 2018

Husband, lover, partner, best friend, and teammate to his wife Ruth, and the steady glow that guided his three children Jean, Douglas, and Gordon through their lives, Colin was born in London, UK. He endured the Blitz before being evacuated with his mother, Margaret MacDonald Shearer Harrowing, first to Dunblane, Scotland and then, joined by his brother Stewart, to Montreal in late 1940.

Survived by his wife and children along with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, Colin's strength and love met all challenges and provided quiet leadership to us.

He was a school teacher and principal in Chateauguay QC and High River AB. Colleagues referred to him as the 'gentle giant.' He was a beekeeper, gardener, woodworker, and oil painter in Winfield AB, before retiring to Lethbridge where he volunteered at Nicholas Sheran Community School for several years. His passions were stained glass and turning wood on his lathe to make beautiful art that will be forever treasured by his family.

The final journey with cancer was borne with immense dignity and courage. He was a kind and loving man whose memory will be cherished always by his family.

Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at PARKBRIDGE ESTATES COMMUNITY HALL, 2920 29 St. S., Lethbridge, on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to You Can Ride 2 (www.youcanride2.ca) or to Bird Studies Canada (www.birdscanada.org).
