1935 - 2022 - MRS. DARLENE "DOLLY" JOAN HANSEN, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Victor Hansen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 17, 2022, one day short of her 87th birthday.
Dolly is survived by her children, Reg (Marianne), Tami (Richard) and Liana (Gary); grandchildren: Haley, Travis, Jessica, Dylan, Cortni, Devan, Brittney, Mackenzie and Lyndsi; and ten great-grandchildren as well as her brother Darryl (Shirley).
Dolly is predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Mary Renning, sister Diane and "baby" brother Darwin.
Darlene was born on December 18, 1935, but was soon nicknamed Dolly by her father. Dolly married Victor when he worked construction on the Travers Dam north of Picture Butte. Their married life together spanned 68 years, during which they moved many times throughout B.C. and AB. The "prairie-born" couple soon became self-sufficient in traversing mountainous terrain and establishing a home environment while road building in remote places. Dolly was well known for meeting all challenges head on while helping others and enjoying the camaraderie of friends.
Dolly developed extensive self-taught skills throughout her life. She made her wedding dress at age 19 and other family members for similar occasions. She refinished furniture, painted cars, did needle point, art work, made dolls & clothing and was a tremendous cook.
In 1979, Vic and Dolly moved to Alberta from Revelstoke, B.C. to take over the Renning family homestead. Dolly and Vic were widely known as a working team in all farming activities, while maintaining a welcoming environment for a growing family and friends. Dolly enjoyed membership in the Barrhill Ladies Club, the Sons of Norway and coordinated social events in their area and on their farm. After 25 on-farm years, Vic and Dolly moved to Lethbridge, where Victor currently resides.
At Dolly's request, no Funeral Service will be held. Cremation has taken place, and Interment and Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
