MRS. BARBARA MAGDALINA GRUBER, beloved wife of the late Mr. George Gruber of Picture Butte, AB passed away, with her family at her side, at Piyami Place on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the age of 95 years. She was born on February 21, 1915 in Leader, SK, to Valentine & Katharine Feist. Babe was the only surviving sister to nine siblings and nine step brothers and sisters. In 1935, Babe married George Gruber and spent most of her life in the Picture Butte area. Babe lost her husband George in 1982. She was also predeceased by her sons John (Lorraine) and Ken and grandchild Kenny. She is survived by her daughters Victoria (Leonard) Dunn and Anne (Ken) Romanchuk, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Babe had a spunky personality to go along with her red hair. She was very community minded. She was a remarkable lady who loved to laugh and always had that twinkle in her eye. Even while she had alzheimers/dementia, she was still teasing people and making them laugh right up to the very end. Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks to the Piyami Place staff who spoiled and cared for Babe like their own family.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. CATHERINE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 762 Crescent Avenue North, Picture Butte on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Tomy Manjaly, Celebrant. Interment to follow the reception at Mountain View Cemetery.
