Green, Gertrude Brenda

GERTRUDE BRENDA GREEN, of Lethbridge and formerly of Broadview, Sask., beloved wife of the late George Ernest Green, passed away at the Lethbridge Fairmont Extendicare on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at the age of 96 years.
She is the loving mother of Arlene (George) Bozek of Unity, Sask., and George "Sonny" (Karen) Green of Broadview, Sask., as well as four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Pettit of Winnipeg, MB, seven nieces and nephews and numerous family and friends.
She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Lou Green.
Brenda was born and raised in the prairie town of Broadview, Sask. She was the oldest of four children born to British parents who emigrated to a new life in the prairies. Her Dad worked for the CPR as she was growing up and her Mom was a busy and vibrant part of the community. She met and married her husband George and they raised their own family until his job with the CPR was transferred. Her kids went in all directions over the years, to the Navy and the RCMP or the oil patch, coming home when they could to spend some time. Several moves and many years later, they retired in Lethbridge but sadly George passed away shortly after. Generations unfolded and the family grew but Brenda always had the pictures on her bulletin boards and kept up with everyone's antics. She rode the buses to visit family and friends over three provinces and it was many years before she slowed down. Brenda was inquisitive and loved to learn and create - she painted and knitted up a storm and was always there on the phone for a chat. A shadow passed through her life with the loss of her youngest child, Linda Lou, several years ago. This was a very difficult time for her and she managed to keep going even then but it started to take its toll. She lost her sister Margaret and brother John as well as numerous friends. She was a kind and positive person, generous and giving - being a Mom, a sister, an aunt or a wife - she remembered each and every one. Her great big extended family will miss her greatly and we are all so grateful to the loving and caring staff of Garden View Lodge and of Extendicare who could be with her when we could not. We know she is reunited with those she has lost and can be at peace now.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
