ALICE ELIZABETH GRAY, beloved wife of the late Ian Gray left this world for her next big adventure on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the age of 82.
Alice was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 31, 1927 to George & Joan Elizabeth Drinkell. On June 26, 1948, Alice married her soul mate Ian and three years later they immigrated to Canada with their son Keith. A few years later they welcomed their daughter Laraine. Alice worked part time in the fabric department at Eaton’s for many years while also helping out with the family painting and decorating business. Alice was never one to sit still, and as a result many people benefited from her knitting and sewing but best of all, her butter tarts and banana bread. After retiring, Alice and Ian spent more time doing the things they loved which primarily involved traveling the world.
Most importantly, Alice was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She had the “gift of gab” and made friends whereever she went. She always looked forward to her weekly coffee and lunch dates with her friends and family. The last couple of years, Alice volunteered at the Lethbridge Food Bank (LFB) where she was credited as the reason they created the Volunteer of the Month. The LFB said “she was our first, only and best volunteer, friend, confident and supporter” to receive this award.
Alice will be lovingly remembered by her son, Keith (Leisha) Gray, daughter Laraine Gray (Doug Lamey), grandchildren Kelly Gray and her husband Tim Fehr, Kyle Hougen (Stephanie Lehmann), Joel (Lindsey) Hougen, CariAnn (Shaun) Olsen and great grandchild Grayson. Alice will also be missed by her numerous friends, which are too many to mention but all played a special part in her life.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Ian in 2006, granddaughter Tracy, siblings Charlie and George Drinkell.
A Celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Saturday January 23, 2010 at the CHINOOK ROOM at THE SANDMAN INN from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all of the staff at the Stroke Unit (4C) at Chinook Regional Hospital and her special friend Barb. Those wishing to honor the memory of Alice may donate to the Lethbridge Food Bank, 1016 2 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0C9 (403) 320-1879.
