C. FLOYD GILLIES, beloved husband of Yoko Gillies of Picture Butte, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the age of 84.
Besides his loving wife of fifty years, Floyd is survived by his sons, Darren (Arlene), Grant (Sandra) of Picture Butte and daughter Cindy of Calgary; grandchildren Dustin and Brady, step-grandchildren Jennie Grimes, Derek (Kim), and great grandson, Ryker Grimes; sister, Celia Drake and sisters-in-law Ritz Misumi, Tats (Aki) Oshiro and Toki (Kiyo) Nishijima; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Violet (Toots) and Cecil Gillies, parents in law Hidekichi and Kuni Ikeda, as well as brother-in-laws Gib Drake and Bae Misumi. Floyd spent many years farming and working with Rogers Sugar before retiring from Palliser Distilleries. An avid sportsman, Floyd spent many years golfing, camping, hunting and fishing, but was probably best known for his multitude of accomplishments in curling and baseball. More recently, he rarely missed a game on TV and was consistently a familiar face at the annual hockey drafts. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. His greatest joy came from the accomplishments of his grandsons, never missing a sporting event or competition. He cherished every moment spent with his family. Floyd was a quiet, gentle man who was a devoted, loving and sincere husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend with a light-hearted, clever sense of humour. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Aldeen McKay, officiating.
