GIER, ALICE

ALICE GIER (nee RATKE) of Okotoks, passed away at the High River Hospital on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Alice is the loving mother of three children, Rodney Dean (Sherry) Gier of Okotoks, Rhonda Lynn Mainzer of Lethbridge and Dale Alan (Michelle) Gier of Okotoks. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two sisters Edna Leffler and Linda Paetsch, and one brother Ernest Ratke. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Earl Gier and six siblings. Alice was born December 1, 1925 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. She was a very loving, caring person who was always willing to help someone out. Mom enjoyed babysitting, sewing, knitting, bingo, bowling, walking with friends, volunteering at the “Soup Kitchen”, Lethbridge Seniors Citizens Organization, and taking casino bus trips with her friends. She was an active member of First United Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. As an active sports fan, Mom enjoyed watching hockey, baseball, bowling, and curling. She was a very independent person and in her later years she enjoyed being close to Family. A Memorial Service will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH, 502-13TH Street North, Lethbridge on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 1:00 P.M., with Reverend Brenda Kersell officiating.
