George was born on March 30, 1941, in Beadle County, South Dakota, to John and Annie Stahl, as the ninth of eleven children. In 1944, he moved with his parents to Ayers Colony, Grass Range, Montana. He attended Ayers Colony School and Turner High School in Montana. George grew up living a purposeful life serving in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965.
On February 11, 1968, he married the love of his life, Mary Hofer from Deerfield Colony, Lewistown, Montana, and together they built a life centered around faith and family. They lived at Ayers Colony, Montana, for eight years. In 1978, they settled in Sunburst, Montana, where he founded and operated Stahl Construction until 2001.
In 2001, George and Mary retired and moved to Lethbridge, Alberta. George enjoyed socializing, gardening, flowers, reading, tinkering, and fixing things. He believed in the unconditional love of God, promised through His Son Jesus Christ, and lived his life in total contentment based on this promise.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his son George Herbert Jr. (Herb) and wife Susan of Santa Monica, California, and granddaughter Dagny in Boulder, Colorado. He also leaves behind his brothers, Dave (Drumbo, Ontario) and Josh (Grass Range, Montana). His sisters include Mary Walter (Spring Creek Colony, Lewistown, Montana), Susie (Blue Sky Colony, Drumheller, Alberta), and Lana (Lethbridge, Alberta), along with many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his daughter Shirley, his parents John and Annie, and his siblings: Annie, Katie, Joe, John, and Martin.
A reception and memorial will be held at a later date.
