GEORGE GOOD STRIKER

On the early morning of February 6, 2009, a father, brother, and spiritual leader MR. GEORGE GOOD STRIKER went home peacefully to be with his wife Peggy and daughter Liz. George Sr. ‘Isskssiinaopakstooki’ (Wide Eared Insect) Good Striker was born August 28, 1936 in the old Indian Hospital to the late Frank and Marion Good Striker of the Lone Fighter Clan. Sadly and sorrowfully left to mourn his passing are his sisters Mrs. Irene Tail Feathers, Mrs. Mary Singer and Mrs. Doreen (George) Little Shields; his Aunts Mrs. Kitty Wadsworth and Mrs. May Weasel Fat; sisters-in-law Mrs. Annie Mae Good Striker, Mrs. Celina Good Striker and Mrs. Hilda (Ralph) Knife, Linda (Calvin) Small Legs, Calvin (Ernestine) Williams, France (James) Thompson, Karen (Sam) Wolf Plume, Lionel (Jessica) Williams, Norm (Glen) Gweener, Anna Wilson Shaffe and Pete Sidley and Moke Eagle Feathers. In 1957 he Wed Helen Scott and together they were blessed with four children; George Jr. (Toni), Robert, Dwayne and Liz (deceased). Later in 1972 he met and married the love and inspiration of his life Peggy Williams. Together they further blessed their union with three more children; Troy (Nettie), Shane and Tyler as well as two other children Leona One Spot and Greg Crow Child from the Tsuu T’ina Nation. George is also survived by his beloved grandchildren; Katana, Enver, Cloud, Tristen, Vienna, Clay, Elizabeth, Karis, Cassius, July, Skyler, Alex, Kevin, Mackenzie, Roberto, Ana, Jade, Adam, Eartha, Faith, Josh, Michael and numerous relatives, friends and acquaintances worldwide. He is also survived by his adopted children Lynn, Corky and River Jonasson, Rob Penner, John John Stiff Arm, Frank Russell, Vicki Good Striker among others that are too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers; Frank, James, Rufus, sisters; Rubianne, Eileen, Queenie, Marion, Marjorie and Dorothy and his daughter Liz; Parents-in-law Victor and Alice Williams, spiritual brother Joe Roan; Brothers-in-law, Walter Singer, Steven Fox, Gerald Tail Feathers; sisters-in-law Theresa Chief Body, Sharon Williams and Aurbina Williams; aunties Louise Crop Earred Wolf, Katherine Eagle Speaker, Kate Healy and Beatrice Good Striker; uncles Fred Weasel Fat and Dan Weasel Fat. George Good Striker was an elder and a member of the Blood Tribe. He always lived on the Reserve with his family. George Sr. was one of the founding members of the St. Paul’s Treatment Centre on the Blood Reserve. He fulfilled various roles when he worked at the centre from 1976-1996 to help combat the destructive forces of alcohol and drug abuse. He worked at the University of Lethbridge, Four Worlds Summer Institute for 10 years coordinating spiritual healing ceremonies for participants, regardless of race. Since 1990, to present George was a resource person for Kainai Corrections. He traveled extensively in the U.S.A. and Canada sharing his knowledge on the traditional teachings of our ancestors. In addition, he was invited to numerous organizations too many to mention. In the past, George has gone on numerous vision quests and has received many gifts from our creator. One of the most powerful things he did was run sweat lodges, and he never turned anyone away who came to him for help or healing. George believed that all people should be made aware of their traditional way of life and traditional values which can actually empower them. George believed in the holistic healing of the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual aspects of an individual. He was an excellent role model and not only did he teach about the traditional way of life, he lived it. A Wake Service will be held at THE SENATOR GLADSTONE HALL, Blood Reserve, on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 2:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. and continue on at George’s residence. A Funeral Service will be held at THE SENATOR GLADSTONE HALL, Blood Reserve on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Venerable Archdeacon Sidney Black officiating. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
