GEORGE ENS, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, at the age of 84 years. George was embraced by the arms of his Lord in the early morning after being a cancer survivor for 16 years. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in the summer of 2009. He endured the pain bravely as it got worse.
He is survived by his loving wife Vi, he is the loving father of Connie (Ken) Kevol of Earl Grey, SK., Debbie Breen (Tony) of Cloverdale, B.C., and Gordon Ens of Calgary. He is Grandfather to Cameron (Kelley) of Lethbridge, Kyle (Deanna) Talbot of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Jordan (Lindsay) of Calgary, and Carly Talbot of Cloverdale, B.C.
He is also survived by brothers Abe (Liz), Henry (Susan), Jake (Marilyn), and David (Mary), sisters Mary Gossen, and Helen Redies Gans, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Rev. Abram (Maria) Ens, sisters Margaret Veer and Nettie (Leo) Gans.
George came to Canada with his parents, and two brothers and one sister in 1927, joined as years went on by three more sisters and two brothers. The family lived in several places until moving to Coaldale in 1936.
George received his army call in 1944. He wanted to serve his country, but did not want to take anyone’s life. He rather wanted to help people and save lives. This prompted him to join the medical corps. When the war ended he was discharged. He returned to Coaldale and to his future wife Viola Leines who he met on August 15, 1943. They were married August 15, 1947. This union brought three children.
A Funeral Service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Richard Brown officiating.
