Glasser, Garry

October 22, 1942

May 18, 2025

Date of Service: May 26, 2025

GARRY JEROME GLASSER, a cherished husband, father, grandpa, great-grandad, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, with his beloved wife Norma by his side, on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the age of 82 years.

Garry was born on October 22, 1942, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He is survived by the love of his life, Norma “Norm” Ruth Glasser (née Norman) who has been his devoted wife for 59 years. Garry’s mischievous personality kept Norm on her toes and their marriage stayed fresh and fun as a result. Garry was an amazing father to his children Garry Lee “Bojo” and Sherry “Maggie” and was immensely proud of his son-in-law Shawn Sakatch, also known as “A Fella”, who viewed him as their hero.

Some of their fondest memories involved playing cards, family camping trips, hunting and fishing, which always included a friendly competition with a quarter for the first, biggest and most fish caught. Garry adored his grandchildren, Kevin and Trevor Sakatch “The Boys” and could always be found playing with them and teaching them valuable skills like how to pee over the top of wire of the electric fence. He was so happy when “The Boys” found the love of their lives, Stephanie Williams (Kevin) and Taylor Baker (Trevor) which provided him with more grandkids to tease. The absolute apple of his eye was his two-year-old great-granddaughter Olivia Celeste Sakatch, and he loved it when they would yodel together. He cherished having his family and friends around him and he was even happier when he was joking around and pestering someone.

Garry is survived by his sister Shirley (Curt) Miller, as well as many nieces and nephews. Garry was predeceased by his parents August (Gus) and Mary Glasser, sister, Doreen Jensen; Norm’s parents, Clifford (Mickey) and Doris Norman, and her brother, Dale Norman.

Garry grew up in the Prelate/Sceptre area in Saskatchewan, and moved to Hayes, Alberta in 1952. Garry was a true “Jack of all Trades” and loved to share his knowledge whether it be how to play a card game, fish, farm, play baseball, build a custom home, or rebuild a car engine. His good-natured competitiveness was evident in everything he did, and he was one of those people that was able to do anything he tried well and always seemed to have luck on his side.

A Viewing will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2825 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, May 26, 2025 at 12:00 Noon, with a Celebration of life to follow at 1:00 P.M. with Pat Siedlecki officiating.

Following the Celebration of life, Garry will be laid to rest in Royal View Cemetery.
