MR. FREDRICK SWEET GRASS passed away in Standoff on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the age of 61 years. Fred is survived by his brother Arthur (Rosetta) Sweet Grass, sisters; Mary, Alfreda Sweet Grass, Catherine (Oliver) Russell, Rosabelle (Calvin) Day Chief, aunts Margaret (Andrew) Weasel Fat, Elsie (Herbert) First Rider and Isabelle Healy. He is also survived by his special nieces and nephews he raised as his own children and loved very much; Kelly, Troy (Gaylene), Jamie (Christine), Chrissy (Jono) and Tracy Sweet Grass and special great nieces and nephews Landon, Stetsun, Tylene and McKenzie Sweet Grass who were all like grandchildren to him, nieces and nephews Darren and Marlene Sweet Grass, Lori, Ace, Cade Sweet Grass, Robin Day Chief, Donna (Almer) Soldier, Colin, Lynn, Karen (Keith), Jackie Russell, Michael (Stephanie) Chief Body, Nichole (Andy) Many Fingers, Rose Marie, Doris (Dale), Connie (Calvert), Doreen (Randy) Sweet Grass as well as many other numerous great nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Eva (Eagle Bear) Sweet Grass, grandparents Jack and Agnes Eagle Bear, Mary Frank and Leonard Sweet Grass, brothers Wilfred Jr. (Tony) and Conrad Francis (Gordon) Sweet Grass, sisters Christine (Fred) Healy, Bertha Sweet Grass, niece Laura and nephew Clarence Sweet Grass. Fred was known to many friends and family as ‘Bumsi’. Fred attended the St. Mary’s Residential School at age of 8 years until 15. After leaving school, Fred furthered his education at Drumheller Vocational School for one year. He later attended Fort McMurray and received his certificate for Heavy Equipment. Fred worked for his uncle Stan Eagle Bear for many years on the farm as a ranch hand. He was a kind, gentle person who loved to joke around and visit with family and friends. He enjoyed taking walks around home and to Standoff. Fred was always there when he was needed and that was every day and he never hesitated when asked to help. He also enjoyed having his ‘slush’. Fred was loved and he loved everyone. A Wake Service will be held at WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Blood Reserve on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Pawel Andrasz officiating. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Further gathering will take place at the Old Saipoyi School Gym.
