Fraser, Wayne

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, son, brother, step-father, grandfather, and friend JOSEPH MOISE"WAYNE" FRASER of Lethbridge, AB, on August 5th, 2016 at the age of 63 years.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Hansen; his step children, Adam (Emily), Angela (Sabelo), Dallin, Makay (Sam), Christian; his grandchildren Khaya and Teo, his mother, Jan Fraser; his siblings Pat (Peter), Darlene, Shane, and Roger (Marylou); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wayne passed away suddenly while walking the Lethbridge coulees on a bright, beautiful, and sunny morning.

Wayne loved the West Coast oceans and mountains, where he was an avid sailor, hiker, biker, and skier. Throughout his life he displayed an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit and was involved in many businesses, community organizations, and adventures. Especially while living on Salt Spring Island, BC, Wayne was involved in the Parks and Recreation Commission. He also volunteered for the Restorative Justice Program on the island.

Although always a happy, playful spirit, he was challenged with significant health issues. Wayne was introduced to Taoist Tai Chi which became his daily practice, his centre, and his medication; he was soon elevated to a widely respected instructor. The focus of his life shifted to mindfulness and being present. His health recovery was directly related to his practice of Tai Chi and is truly an example of the power of the human spirit.

While in Victoria, he met the love of his life, Terry Hansen. Terry and Wayne were married in Bow Island, AB in 2014. They set off on a journey to discover a new adventure in South America. Wayne taught Tai Chi to Ecuadorian children and touched the hearts of countless people along his South American journey.

The return to Lethbridge, AB in 2015 was the beginning of an incredible chapter in Wayne's life - grand parenting. Wayne, known as 'Grandpa Wayne', was at his best. His fun loving character manifested itself at it most amazing, while playing, teaching, and cuddling with Khaya and Teo. His grandchildren truly reflect the love and adoration he showered on them. Wayne mentored and guided many people in his life, especially the young adults in his family. He was an example to all.

Wayne's steady presence, spirit, compassion, and generosity was such that he will be missed by all those who knew him. The gift he gave us all will ensure his legacy of kindness and selflessness will live on.

Donations in memory of Wayne are gratefully accepted at Lethbridge Police Services, Attn: Search and Rescue and Victim Services, 135-1st Ave. South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0A1 or online at saralberta.ca

A Private Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held at THE GALT MUSEUM, 502-1st Street South, Lethbridge, AB at a later date with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Wayne and was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Wayne was a wonderful human being and always a joy to be around. He touched so many people's lives with his smile and his kindness.

Lethbridge Zone - Civil Air Search and Rescue Association played a small part in the search for Wayne. He was found while we were in the air. The airplane was pretty quiet upon learning of his passing and on behalf of CASARA Lethbridge and CASARA Alberta I wish to express our sincere condolences.

There are no words to express the sorrow we feel for you at the loss of your beloved Wayne. Many years ago, Wayne was a big Cat Stevens fan. We would like to believe he is at peace in heaven singing the following lyrics from Moonshadow. With all our love and prayers The Todd-Hancock Family Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing Praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the world Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven Like the first dewfall on the first grass Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden Sprung in completeness where his feet pass Mine is the sunlight Mine is the morning
