FRANK WILLIAM MALEC

FRANK WILLIAM MALEC, beloved companion of JoAnn Schebel, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the age of 66 years. He is lovingly survived by JoAnn Schebel, his partner and friend for the past ten years and her children David (Erin) Birch and Jennifer (Corey) Ketler, and grandchildren Arianna, Ryland, Jessica and Garrett, and ‘Mom’ Audrey Manion and family, his precious Auntie Annie Stanko and cousins Carol (Peter) Kempenaar, Robert Stanko and Bonnie (Robert) Chabay, his Uncle Bill (Georgette) Hirsche and cousin Michael (Monica) Hirsche, his many constant and caring friends, especially Vic and Deb Giesbrecht and Dallas and Jules Szarko who were always there for him providing love, support, compassion and understanding. He is also survived by his sister Diane (Art) Wocknitz and brother Roy (Sharon) Malec and nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his father John and mother Mary Malec. From a young age of 14, Frank was farming, often missing school to be operating a tractor or swather or work on the farm with his father. In the 1970’s he built his home on the family farm where he developed the property, expanded the farming operations and continued to live and work throughout his lifetime. Being creative and industrious and with an entrepreneurial spirit he could be seen hauling hides for BFI, falling trees and splitting logs, selling firewood and undertaking demolition jobs while developing the farm. He met many people and made many friends. More than anything he loved the farm and farming. Frank was avidly involved in agriculture, irrigation and community organizations serving with the SMRID Board for over 15 years, Alberta Beet Growers, North West Irrigation Organization, Lethbridge Miners Library, Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family, neighbors and friends. Being a very social person he was a regular on coffee row, participating and living his life to the fullest with zest, spontaneity, emotion and passion. He recently enjoyed travels to Nicaragua and Guatemala with the Flaman group on humanitarian missions. Frank bravely fought leukemia and diabetes living each day to the fullest in defiance of the diseases. Being passionate, aggressive and assertive in his pursuit of goals, and persistent in his beliefs and causes, he made his presence known and touched the lives of many. Frank was Frank, and Frank did what Frank wanted to do. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him.
