Frank Arnold
FRANK ARNOLD, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Helga Arnold, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the age of 92 years.
Frank was born in St. Leonhard, Austria, to Anton and Johanna (née Sadjak) Arnold. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Anton Arnold and wife Elli of St. Leonhard, Austria; and his sister, Johanna Kugi and husband Max of Penticton, British Columbia.
Frank leaves behind his loving wife, Helga Arnold; his son, Erwin Arnold; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews: Robert (Tracey) Kugi and Harald Kugi of Vancouver, Mario (Diane) Kugi of Summerland, B.C., John (Kelly) Kugi of Spain, and Johann Arnold of Austria; nieces Gabrielle Arnold of Austria and Angelika Kofler-Arnold of Austria, along with her son Mario. He is also survived by great-nephews and great-nieces Mike Kugi of Penticton, Ryen Kugi, Jillian Kugi, Danielle Kugi, and Elizabeth Kugi, all of Vancouver, and Alexander and Thomas Kugi.
After immigrating to Canada in 1957, Frank first settled in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where he worked in his trained profession as a carpenter. When work opportunities became limited, Frank, along with Helga and Erwin, moved to Lethbridge in 1973, where they built a life and home together.
Frank was employed at the Animal Diseases Research Institute (A.D.R.I.), where he enjoyed what he often described as his dream job, combining carpentry and maintenance work. He remained there until his retirement in 1995.
One of Frank’s greatest passions was music. He was a devoted member of the Lethbridge German Men’s Choir, singing throughout Alberta and rarely missing a rehearsal. The friendships he formed through music remained important throughout his life, and he cherished opportunities to reunite and sing with choir friends in Austria during visits back to his homeland.
Frank also enjoyed golfing and approached the game with enthusiasm and a healthy competitive spirit—especially when competing against himself. In his later years, whenever the weather cooperated, he could often be seen cruising the sidewalks of West Lethbridge on his electric scooter. During the winter months, he enjoyed spending quiet afternoons assembling puzzles in the family room.
Frank will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of music, his devotion to family, and his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 1:00 P.M.
A Private Family Graveside will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Frank would also appreciate something simpler: raise a glass, enjoy a beverage of your choice, and make a toast in his memory.
