"Kataitsota'si" - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Pat Fox, who left us suddenly on June 13th, 2021.
Left to navigate the world without him are his loving wife Rose, son Rick (Liz) and daughter Becky-Jo; grandchildren: Jake (Pricilla), PJ, Jonathan, Joel, Nick, Trista, Buddy, and his baby girl Darby-Jo. Also left to grieve are his siblings: Sisters: Rosaline Crow Shoe, Joyce First Rider, Dolly Creighton, and Audrey White Quills; Brothers: Wilfred Soop, Larry Fox (Donna) and Eugene Creighton. Pat's love for his family extended to his nieces and nephews. Everyone knew they could count on Uncle Paddy for love and support.
Pat was born and raised on the Blood Reserve. He attended St. Mary's residential school where he made lifelong friends, many of whom were his friends up to the day he left. He moved on to St. Francis All Boys Catholic High School, and then to the Lethbridge College, where he earned his Red Seal as an electrician. He became a Master Electrician, taking great pride in his work. People knew if they needed electrical work done, they called Pat. Pat always made time for people in need with electrical problems at any hour of the day. He took great care and dedication with his work which he passed on to his boys.
In 1969, Pat met the love of his life Rose, thanks to his sister Bubbles who was her best friend, and in 1970, their journey together began. This long love story lasted until his passing. There was no Pat without Rose. Their love survived the loss of their first daughter Patricia in 1973. They welcomed their son Rick in 1974. After the loss of their second son Jonathan, their family was complete when their baby girl Becky-Jo was born in 1979.
Pat lost his mother very early in life. As a result, his family is very close knit and protective of each other. Family was everything to Pat. There was nothing he enjoyed more than large family gatherings with love and laughter. They learned to lean on each other to make it through every obstacle ever thrown at them.
Together Pat and Rose opened their home and hearts to everyone in need, taking them in and helping to raise many nieces and nephews, showing them the love and support that they would to their own children. Hos legend Pat filled the role of father and Papa, so many are proud to call him dad. Pat loved being a dad and his greatest pride came from his children. Rick and Becky always knew their dad was there for anything. No matter what it was, Pat always made it happen. He never knew his heart could hold anymore, until 1993, when Jake busted through the doors and Papa Pat never looked back. Soon after in 1995, PJ came into the world to capture his heart and steal his candy. The boys, Jon, Joel and Nick came along and with each, they brought so much joy. When Trista and Buddy joined the family, we were sure that our family was complete until Darby-Jo came into his life and made every one of his last days full of fun.
Pat followed in the footsteps of his father, John Fox, in his legend of the rodeo arena. He spent his summers travelling with his family teaching Rick and Becky; Becky as a barrel racer and Rick as a calf roper. His rodeo friends held a special place in his heart and to the very end, he cherished every friendship he made. In 1979, along with his Brother in-law and one of his best friends, Chief (Eugene) Creighton, he qualified for his first INFR in Team Roping. They traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah with a two month old baby, Becky, in tow. This made the entire trip that much more special. As the kids got older, his focus moved to them, giving them everything they needed to be successful and he took pride in their every win. Pat was so proud to drive his baby girl to every rodeo as she qualified to several finals in the rodeo arena. No place was too far and the time didn't matter as she was doing what she loved, which made him happy. As time went on and the grand kids got older, he was able to give them the same encouragement and tools to be successful. He was their biggest supporter, no matter if it was hockey, rodeo, or any other sport
Rose was Pat's world, and when she transferred in to the Motokiiksi, he made it his job to ensure all the women were taken care of and even though it was a learning experience, he took it in stride and learned on the fly.
Paddy touched many lives with his kindness, humor and selfless nature. He was a protector, provider and rock to his family, right to the moment he left. He never wanted Rose or the kids to ever worry or stress about anything he couldn't provide. As Rose said "He spoiled us. That was his way".
Pat was predeceased by his parents John and Gertrude Fox, and in-laws, Barney and Rosie Day Rider; daughter Patricia and son Jonathan; sisters: Arabella Creighton, Phyllis Fox and Josie Russell; brother Jonas Fox; brothers-in-law Stanford Creighton, Jiggs Creighton, Mervyn Crow Shoe, Tom Holy Singer, Rodrick White Quills and Randy First Rider; and sisters-in-law Ada Mae Fox and Geraldine Soop.
