HOWARD FRANKLIN FOLKINS, of Lethbridge and formerly of Warner, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on August 9, 2019. Howard was born October 18, 1924 in Lethbridge, the son of Bert & Treva Folkins.
Howard proudly served while training in the Royal Canadian Air Force and farmed for many years in the Warner area. His love for people was reflected by his involvement in the Warner community.
Howard demonstrated a love for music by playing his clarinet and oboe for the Lethbridge Symphony, participating in the Community Band during his retirement years, and singing for many years in the choir at the Warner Evangelical United Brethren Church.
He partnered with Vic Wright in organizing the local community band in Warner which eventually evolved and merged into the combined high school bands of Warner and Milk River. He was also involved with organizing activities at the ice arena at the Warner Civic Center. He gave much of his time managing the facility and coaching and refereeing hockey through its early years of development.
Howard is survived by his sister-in-law, Rosalie Folkins; children, Greg (Lyla) Folkins and Brenda Taylor; son-in-law, Jay Donelon (Janine); grandchildren, Jared (Jaimi) Folkins, Jacqueline (Ryan) Apple, and Christian Folkins; as well as his great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jude, Ethan, and Lucas. He was known as a favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Shirley Folkins.
Howard was preceded in death by his son, Kent Folkins; daughters, Karen Folkins and Janine Donelon; as well as a grandson, Jaye Folkins.
He leaves behind many friendships while living out his remaining years in Lethbridge. His influence on the community of Warner, his love for his family, the farm and for music will be remembered by all who knew him.

Since great-grampa Howard died, we have been blessed with another boy, beautiful Lucas William Apple, born on "labor day," 2019. Thank you Jackie & Ryan
Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. It's hard to believe Uncle Howard is gone. He was a wonderful Man with great humour and lived his life well.
Howard was such a sweet man. He lived in the basement suite of our son Rob's house. Always an intelligent and gentleman. We won't forget him. Bonny and Dan
So sorry! He was a great neighbor in Warner. Thinking of you all....
Hal and I send our deepest sympathy in the passing of Greg's Dad. We just saw the notice in the Herald. He was a special man more than willing to include me in lots of activities, hiking down the railroad tracks for a picnic, trips to Writing On Stone, trips to Lethbridge, etc. I'll always remember the trips to the farm to pick rocks - a penny a rock. I'm sure Janine and I spent more time driving around in the little car than actually picking rocks. Yummy breakfasts after a sleep over were also a highlight! Take Care. Sincerely, Hal & Janet
It was a pleasure to know Howard these past 15 years. I was the barista at Dove and he was a daily visitor. I heard many stories of his life, we shared jokes and he would update me as to what was the news of the day from the newspaper. Always cheerful and a true friend as we continued our friendship over the years. I will miss his presence. My condolences to the family.
My condolences with the passing of Dad, Dad-in-law, Grandfather. 94 is a blessed age. Glad you people could have him that long.
Dad, we love you and will miss you. You are home.
