Howard proudly served while training in the Royal Canadian Air Force and farmed for many years in the Warner area. His love for people was reflected by his involvement in the Warner community.

Howard demonstrated a love for music by playing his clarinet and oboe for the Lethbridge Symphony, participating in the Community Band during his retirement years, and singing for many years in the choir at the Warner Evangelical United Brethren Church.

He partnered with Vic Wright in organizing the local community band in Warner which eventually evolved and merged into the combined high school bands of Warner and Milk River. He was also involved with organizing activities at the ice arena at the Warner Civic Center. He gave much of his time managing the facility and coaching and refereeing hockey through its early years of development.

He leaves behind many friendships while living out his remaining years in Lethbridge. His influence on the community of Warner, his love for his family, the farm and for music will be remembered by all who knew him.
