FLOYD HOWG

FLOYD W. HOWG of Lomond, beloved husband of the late Roseann Howg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Floyd was born on the homestead at Enchant, AB on October 22, 1913, the eldest of five children. His passion for baseball and other sports began when he played for Enchant in his younger days, and continued throughout his life as a fan at Ball Tournaments in Enchant, Lomond and Vauxhall, and later as an armchair athlete watching the Blue Jays, Stampeders and Calgary Flames on t.v. Floyd also enjoyed curling, fishing, ice fishing, and watching the local kids play hockey and baseball. He curled into his mid-80’s and attended the Badger Lake Ice Derby into his 90’s (even though he never caught a fish). He was very active in the community and a long time member of Lomond Lion’s Club. He farmed until 2003 when he retired and moved into the Seniors Apartments in Lomond where he enjoyed many cribbage games with his friends at the Seniors Centre and morning coffee with his friends at the Lomond Restaurant. In 2006, as his health failed, he moved to Blue Sky Lodge in Lethbridge and later to Park Meadows Good Samaritan’s where he remained until his passing. Floyd, a kind, gentle man, was loved by everyone. Family was of utmost importance to Floyd and he took great pride in everyone’s accomplishments including those of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and was always there to lend a hand or a word of praise. He had a unique sense of humor and was always quick with a response. Left to honour his memory are children, Leroy (Ann) Branden of Vulcan, Gordon (Carol) Howg of Lomond, Robert (Carla) Howg of Phoenix, AZ, Linda Klemenz of Calgary, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sisters Marliene Haugen of Camrose, Ruth Severtsen of Innisfail, sister-in-law Emily Howg of Lethbridge and numerous nieces and nephews. Floyd was predeceased by his beloved wife Roseann, parents Ole and Lena Howg, brothers Art Howg, Les Howg, brothers-in-law Henry Haugen, Severt Severtsen, sister-in-law Phillis Howg, and son-in-law Sunny Klemenz. A Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at ENCHANT COMMUNITY HALL with Pastor Jakob Pillibeit officiating. Interment to follow at Enchant Cemetery. In memory of Floyd, tributes may be made to Ibbeftad Lutheran Church, Enchant, AB T0K 0V0 or Bethany Lutheran Church, Box 238, Lomond, AB T0L 1G0.
