Ferguson, Richard Sempy

RICHARD SEMPY FERGUSON, beloved husband of Marjorie for over 60 years, passed away at St, Michael's Health Centre -Palliative Care Unit, in Lethbridge on December 12th, 2015, at the age of 84 years.
Richard was born on February 18, 1931 in Lethbridge, Alberta, and raised on the family farm at Huckleberry Corner near Barnwell, Alberta. He worked on the farm as well as other jobs. He was very active in the Taber Barnwell Beef Calf Club and won two awards. He met Marjorie in 1952 and they were married in May, 1955. They farmed at Barnwell for five years. In 1960 Richard earned his Stationary Engineer's certificate and they moved to Lethbridge where he worked at the City of Lethbridge Power Plant. He continued studying and in subsequent years he worked as Chief Engineer at the Suffield Defence Research Station; Canbra Foods in Lethbridge; and Molson Brewery in Lethbridge. He retired in 1990 after the brewery closed. He and Marjorie travelled abroad extensively. They also enjoyed camping and golfing with their friends. Richard was very sociable and enjoyed visiting over a cup of coffee or a beer. He loved his children and grandchildren and family gatherings were a priority. He was a member of the Czechoslovak Canadian Cultural Society of Southern Alberta until it disbanded. He was very active in the Southern Alberta Antique and Classic Auto Club, serving in many positions including president and became a life member.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, son John Ferguson, daughter Joanne (Brian) Baillie, grandchildren Richie Ferguson, Bonnie (Gordon) Heine, Hugh and Alexandra Baillie, brother Roy (Ruth) Ferguson, sisters-in-law Kaye Ferguson, Ruth Ferguson, Angeline Kurutz, brother-in-law John Kurutz, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jessie (Daisy) and David Ferguson, brothers Walter (Scotty) Ferguson and David Ferguson, daughter-in-law Lesley Ferguson, mother-in-law and father-in-law Martha and John Kurutz.
Richard was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by his family and his friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH - 411 11th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday, December 19th, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Canon James P. Robinson officiating. A Private Family Interment will be held prior to the Memorial Service.
