EVELYN BLANCHE MURRAY (nee Myers) passed away at the Coaldale Health Care Centre on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Evelyn was the wife of the late John W. Murray of the McNally District. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Jane and her three sons, Bruce (Linda) and their children Tricia (Ron) Hilgersom and great grandchildren Ty and Haylee Hilgersom, and Wesley (Jennifer) Murray; Ian (Jacqueline) and their children Harriet and Caroline (twins); Brian (Sandra) and their children Trevor and Tracy. Evelyn will also be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband John; her parents Blanche and John Myers; and her brother, Everett (Edna) Myers. Evelyn was born June 14, 1914 in Danvers, Minnesota, U.S.A. In the very early 1920’s, the Myers family moved to a farm in Girvin, Saskatchewan, and there she received most of her early education. In the early 1930’s, the family moved to Evelyn’s Uncle’s farm in the Coaldale area. Evelyn completed High School at L.C.I. in Lethbridge and went on to Normal School in Calgary. Her first teaching position was at Twin River School midway between Milk River and Delbonita. The salary was $500 per year with $30 per month paid for room and board. Evelyn taught elementary grades for a number of years in Southern Alberta Schools. In 1939, Evelyn attended and graduated from Guelph School of Agriculture with a degree in Home Economics. Returning to Alberta she taught Home Economics at several High Schools in the South. After marrying John on September 4, 1943 they settled on the farm in the McNally district. Evelyn was active in the community and supported such organizations as Wilson-White Community Club and Women of Unifarm. Evelyn provided leadership and promotion of 4-H Clubs like the Sewing Club, Field Crops Club, Beef Club and Lamp Club. Evelyn loved music, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and tatting. Interment will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Lethbridge, on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are to meet at the main gate. A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Elizabeth Brown officiating. Memorial tributes may be made to the Coaldale Health Care Centre Long Term Care Unit, 2100-11 Street, Coaldale, Alberta T1M 1L2.
