ETHEL MARGARET DIDYCHUK

DIDYCHUK ETHEL MARGARET (RADCLIFF) DIDYCHUK passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the age of 100 years. Ethel was born in Huntsville, Ontario, on September 28, 1911 to Isaac and Margaret Radcliff. In 1912, she came with her parents, sister Laura and brother Jack to a homestead northwest of Rorketon, Manitoba. She attended Cecil school, then stayed to help on the family farm. She was a dressmaker and worked part-time in the Rorketon Post Office. On October 16, 1937 Ethel married William (Bill) Didychuk and they farmed in the Freedale district. Here they raised one daughter, Margaret. In 1956 they moved to Lynn Lake, Manitoba where Ethel worked first as a clerk for Central Meat, then as a seamstress for Hudson Bay and Eastern Clothing. Bill worked for Sherritt Gordon Mines but due to his ill health, they retired in 1975 and moved back to the Rorketon district, spending the summers at their cabin at Manipogo Beach and the winters in Dauphin. In 1983 they moved permanently into Dauphin making their home at Kinsmen Villa. Ethel moved to Lethbridge’s Garden View Lodge in 2001. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1988, daughter Margaret in 2007, her father in 1954, mother in 1977, sister Laura in 1997, brother Jack in 1987, sister Grace in 2004, sister Mary in 2010, and her parents-in-law Nick and Irene Didychuk. Surviving are her grandchildren Karen Collin, Dean (Lori) Johnson, and Kelly (Jennifer) Johnson; great grandson Michael Collin; and son-in-law Fred Johnson. A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 - Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 5 P.M. Refreshments will follow. In memory of Ethel, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
