Aakiikowaipoyaakii (Woman who speaks out) Our precious Mother and Grandmother Emma, passed away peacefully with her family at her side after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Friday April 24, 2009. Mother is survived by: Step-daughter Helen Many Fingers, Carolla (Hugh), Martha(Tyrone), Bernadette, Charlie (Judy), Lambert (Lee Ann), Margaret (Charles), Gerald(Valerie), Dan, Ann (Jack), Michael (Arlene), Robert (Rhonda), Kyla (Ray), and special daughter Maryann Fox. Sisters: Pauline Three Persons, Margaret, Vera, Kathleen, Justine, Valentine (Barry) and Pearl (John); numerous nieces and nephews from the Cecille Wolf Child Family, Michael Panther Bone, Ed (Ruth) Little Bear Family, Bernard Eagle Plume family. Mother also leaves behind five generations of grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. And her devoted pet, Peter Ross who mourns her passing along side us. Emma was born at the Old Standoff hospital, Blood Reserve to Margaret (nee-Low Horn) Little Bear and Charlie Panther Bone on March 19, 1922. Being raised by her paternal Grandmother she gained the valuable traditional teachings which she passed on to five generations. She attended St. Paul’s residential school on the Blood Reserve for most of her early childhood. Emma married Stephen Fox Sr. in 1945, and together they raised 11 children on their homestead near St. Mary’s Dam. Emma had a strong work ethic. She was employed by Indian Affairs for 17 yrs. as a custodian at St. Mary’s School, Magrath Canning Factory as a seasonal worker and also recognized by Alberta foster Parent Association to children in care. Emma passed on these working ethics to all her children. Emma was a devoted Catholic with this devotion led her on annual trip to Lac St. Anne for 50 yrs, led her on many spiritual journeys throughout her lifetime. When she married George in 1969 they attended many shrines for love of our Blessed Virgin Mary in Quebec, Ontario, Mexico, Colorado, Montana, and to Edmonton, Alberta for a mass with Pope John Paul II. Emma’s favorite past time included traveling to pow-wows, especially attending the Annual Crow Fair with her brother Edward. She danced worldwide in the U.K. and throughout North America. Emma leaves behind a legacy of strong, traditional values, respect for the land, animals, and most of all her people. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Charlie Panther Bone, Stephen Fox Sr. and George Many Feathers, daughter Delores, brothers Michael, Joe, Andrew Panther Bone, James and Edward Little Bear, Bernard Eagle Plume, uncle Albert Panther Bone; sisters Ruth Panther Bone and Eva Spotted Bull. A Family Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. with Francis Noronha, officiating. A Wake Service will be held at CHIEF MOUNTAIN CHAPEL, Moses Lake on Friday May 1, 2009 from 7:00 - 11:00 P.M. and continuing at Emma’s residence. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawell Andrasz, Celebrant. Interment to follow at the Blood Band Cemetery.
