It is with Great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother Elsie Victoria Mistaken Chief, on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Elsie is survived by her children, Lottie (Johnny) Many Wounds, Larry Mistaken Chief, Marie Soosay, Richard Mistaken Chief, Carolyn (Dewey) Blood, Elfreda Hunt, Bruce Mistaken Chief, John (Lynne) Mistaken Chief, Marlene Blood, Steve Jr. (Lily) Mistaken Chief. Adopted children, Antonio (Janet) Long Time Squirrel, Barry (Chasity) Long Time Squirrel, George (Cindy) Long Time Squirrel, Judy Long Time Squirrel, Shelly Long Time Squirrel. Her sisters, Bertha Big Plume and Debra Big Plume. Sister-in-law’s, Teresa Mistaken Chief, Elizabeth Red Crow, Rachel Big Plume and Dora Big Plume, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Specially mentioned are Willis Mistaken Chief, Everett (Tiffany) Mistaken Chief and Twyla Mistaken Chief who lived and cared to her until her passing. Elsie was born on January 12, 1924 and raised on the Tsuu Tina Nation. She attended Sarcee Residential School up to the age of 15 years in which she continued as a nursing aid at Holy Cross Hospital. While at the Holy Cross Hospital, she met the love of her life, Stephen Mistaken Chief and they were married on March 9, 1945. They later moved to the Blood Tribe Reserve where they began their life together. They built a home and had 12 children together. She lived a very fulfilling life surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, word searches, playing bingo and travelling back home to the Tsuu Tina Nation for gatherings. She took pride in her beadwork and had strong beliefs in her catholic and traditional values. Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband Stephen Mistaken Chief, father and mother, George and Clara Big Plume; siblings, Joe Big Plume, John Big Plume, Mary Big Plume, Florine Big Plume; children, Beatrice One Spot, Debbie Mistaken Chief; grandchildren, Brenda One Spot, Bonnie Soosay, Sky Dove Mistaken Chief, Gwendolyn One Spot, Timothy Blood; adopted children, Donna Long Time Squirrel and Newton Long Time Squirrel. The Family Service will be held at the home of Elsie Mistaken Chief on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 3:30 P.M. A Wake Service will be held at the WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff, AB on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 917 - 4th Avenue South in Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, April, 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Standoff, AB. The Mistaken Chief family apologizes for anyone’s name that may have been missed.
