ELMER MILLER passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Milk River Extended Care Centre, surrounded by his family. Elmer is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Catherine, his children; Bernard (Maryllyn) Miller, Laverna (Peter) O’Neil, Carl (Barb) Miller, Greg (Alyce) Miller, Ralph (Louise) Miller, Mary Ann Palmer (Bruce Crain), Anthony (Maureen) Miller, Susan (Gary) Winters, 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, sisters Ada Emard of Lethbridge and Marion (Mike) Angyal of Milk River. He was predeceased by his parents Irv and Barb Miller of Milk River, sisters Linda Johnston of Surrey, BC and Irene Thielen of Allerston, and brother Raymond Miller of Summerland, BC. Elmer was born at the family farm at Allerston on September 7, 1918. He started school at Allerston and after 2 years moved to Calgary. After a few years, the family moved back to the Masinasin area where he attended school at Masinasin and Kippenville. On May 2, 1944 he married Mary Catherine Thielen and they started farming in the Masinasin area where they lived and raised their 8 children. Elmer and Mary Catherine moved to Milk River in 1979 but still farmed until the early 2000s. Elmer drove school bus for the Masinasin school for 30 years. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, Farmer’s Union, School Board, coached boys ball teams and other community activities. There was nothing he liked better than playing cards (if he was winning), visiting with family and having little children on his lap. He will be missed by all who knew him. A Prayer service will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Milk River, after 7:00 o’clock mass on Tuesday, June 16. A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Milk River on Wednesday, June 17 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Joseph Kalathiparambil Celebrant. The Miller family would like to invite family and friends to further share the celebration of Elmer’s life at the Milk River Civic Centre.
