ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ JANE BAILEY passed away the evening of Friday, February 20th, 2026, the greatest teacher, and mother, any of us could have ever hoped for.
Betty is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Jason) deBoer and granddaughters Ceili and Bridget; and son Sean (Shanna) Bailey and grandsons Connor and Ryder. Betty will be greatly missed by her family.
Teaching was what you were put on this Earth to do, and you taught all of us so many things, proper grammar, spelling, the War of 1812, and even the Dewey Decimal system, when that was still around. You tried to teach me about patience and understanding, even when it seemed like that wasn’t possible. You taught Jenn how to clean her room and pick up her stuff, even if that took longer than it should have. And it wasn’t just us, you were an educator to all of our friends, to those that stuck around and to those that moved on. As well as all of your students, which if my rough math is close, is probably over sixteen thousand kids, all said and done. A lot of them loved you, a lot of them liked you, and I’m sure a few of them “hated” you, but that never mattered, you treated everyone the same, you treated them fair and with respect, and maybe that’s the most important lesson of all.
At Betty’s request, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer.

To Betty’s family, Wishing you comfort and peace in the days ahead and loving memories to hold in your hearts. I have had the honour of knowing Betty for 53 years. She worked in the library when I went to Wilson Middle School, then when our children went to Wilson she taught some of them. She was a wonderful teacher! I also had the privilege of working with her when I ran the cafeteria for 13 years. I enjoyed running into her at the mall. I will miss her.🩷 Thinking of you all at this difficult time. With Deepest Sympathy, Carol Toth
I am so sorry to learn of Aunt Betty's passing. Such a shock. I always had a great deal of respect for Aunt Betty and remember her as a warm and caring person. Reconnecting with her these past few years is a blessing to me. May she rest in peace with Uncle Lawrence at her side.
Lawrence always called Betty "my bride", smitten to the end of his days. If you knew Betty, then you knew why. Few human beings encompass as many good qualities as Betty Bailey did. We are so sad to hear of this loss, especially for Jennifer and Sean, and the grandkids she loved so dearly.
My sincerest condolences to Jenn, Sean and their families. I was truly saddened to hear of your mom's passing. I met Betty when I started working at Wilson Middle School. She was one of the best and most dedicated teachers I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She was a wonderful, kind and caring person. She was so understanding and always had time to listen when you needed someone to talk to. I know she will be greatly missed.
Jenn, Jason I’m sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your family.
We've known Betty (and Lawrence, as well as the "kids") for many years and always enjoyed going for lunch at her favorite restaurants or just chatting on the phone. The conversations were always insightful and amusing. Betty was such an articulate and intelligent person. She will be missed by all.
I only ever had the pleasure of meeting Betty once shortly after Lawrence passed away. Sean and I headed out to the house to rummage through his dads car collection, we walk into the house, and this sweet little lady offers me a piece of pizza. The brief conversation we had has stuck with me since that day, as did her smile and her kindness towards a total stranger standing in her house eating pizza. She must've been an amazing teacher.
Your mother was one of the kindness people I knew. I still vision her on your back deck reading and in view of your dads jalopies.
Ms Bailey was my Grade VIII Social Studies teacher at Noble Central. She was one of the most influential and memorable teacher I ever had. So sorry to hear of her passing.
