It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of ELEANOR KATHLEEN ROSS (TILLER) “Aunty”, on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Drumheller Health Centre, at the age of 88.
Aunty was born in Kaslo, B.C. on October 25, 1920 to Thorvald and Edna Horner. She remained in Kaslo to complete her schooling and begin her career as a cashier at Overwaitea.
In the early 1950’s, Aunty relocated to Lethbridge living with her sister Clara Doe and family. She became an employee of Safeway Canada. It was during this time that she met and married Norman Tiller. Together they enjoyed golfing, travelling through Canada and the U.S., bowling and other social activities. After 31 years of employment with Safeway she retired.
Following Norm’s passing Aunty continued her involvement with volunteering at Lethbridge Regional Hospital Gift Shop and other charities. Aunty was also an active member of the Southminster United Church Ladies Auxiliary. During this time, Aunty rekindled her high school friendship with William (Bill) Ross of Victoria, B.C. They were married in Victoria. Together they golfed and enjoyed occasional trips to local casinos.
Following Bill’s death in 2008, Aunty relocated to Drumheller to live with her niece Kathy Krystoff. Her hobbies in later life included knitting and word puzzles. Aunty will be remembered as a vibrant, fun-loving lady who was always generous towards her family, friends and all.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Clara (Doe), her brother Ted Horner and their spouses, Norm Tiller and William Ross, as well as her niece Susan Kehler and nephews Rick and Barry Doe.
