EDDIE EK, beloved husband of Catherine (Kay) peacefully passed away on April 14th, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Eddie was born on March 29th, 1921 in Jamtland, Sweden to Englebrecht and Anna (Soderbon) Ek. Eddie came to Canada with his family in 1928 and settled in Calgary. He is survived by his sister Bertha, and is predeceased by his brothers Nils, Olie, and Eloff; and sisters Anna, Engla, Brita, Inga, Viola, Marie, and Maret and their spouses and families. In 1946 he married Catherine Ell and they shared an incredible love for 65 years. He leaves behind his son, Brian (Jayne). He is predeased by his In-laws, John and Helen Ell, brother-in-law Ted (Meryle) Ell, and leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Carol Kimmitt and their families. There are so many that Eddie shared his love for life with, they were not related, but are such a great and wonderful part of our family. Eddie joined the Army but was discharged due to an injury. Eddie was a jack-of-all-trades and over the years was employed in mining, farming, fishing and logging. He was a talented carpenter, welder and mechanic. If it needed to be fixed, or if you needed an answer, Eddie was your man. He loved a good joke and was full of mischief. In 1968 Eddie and Kay bought Skyway Service in Creston, BC. Eddie always said this was the best time of his life. His love of people and a good cup of coffee made Skyway legendary. He retired to Qualicum Beach in 1979 to be near his beloved ocean. In 2003 Eddie and Kay moved to Lethbridge to be closer to family. Eddie kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles and enjoyed time at the mall people watching and never stopped making new friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday April 19, 2011 at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 - 13 St N, Lethbridge, with Reverend Tim Boyle officiating.
