WEHLAGE MR. EDWIN J. WEHLAGE, formerly of Milk River, AB, passed away peacefully at home in Lethbridge, surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the age of 90 years.
Ed is survived by Yvonne, his loving wife of 61 years, his children, Annella of Lethbridge; Charlotte (Paul) Blust of Milk River, and their children, Stacy (Aaron) Skretting, Adam (Lea), Michael, and Warren; Eugene (Donna) of Coaldale, and their children, Corbyn (Dalyce), Landon (Courtney Thomas), and Logan; Donald (Mary-Ann) of Cuba, New York, USA, and their children Kimberly Thompson and Colin (Marlese)Thompson; Bernadette (Joe) Michielsen of Coaldale, and their children Melissa and John; and four great-grandchildren; Evan Blust, and Jacob, Paul and Anna Skretting. He is also survived by his brother Elmer (Marjorie) Wehlage of Milk River, sisters-in-law Marie Wehlage of Lethbridge, and Eva Balog of Innisfail, Alberta, and brother-in-law Henry (Sylvia) Poirier of Calgary, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Anna Wehlage, three brothers, Arthur, Albert, and Bernard, and one sister, Hilda Belisle, and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
Ed was born in Ogema, Minnesota, on November 22, 1919. He attended four years of schooling at White Earth. With his family, Ed immigrated to the Allerston district in 1930, where he continued his education in Masinasin School with one classmate, with whom he shared text books. Ed worked on local farms for several years, during which time he attended many local dances, where he met the love of his life. In the fall of 1948, he married Yvonne. In 1951, Ed bought a farm and together with Yvonne, they built their home. For nineteen years Ed drove school bus, picking up and delivering students to Masinasin School. Ed was a dedicated farmer, farming until 2006, when his health and caring for Yvonne took priority. Ed was a quiet, humble man, who was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Prayer Service will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 321 Main Street, Milk River, AB. on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. with Reverend Joseph T. Kalathilparambil officiating.
A Funeral Service will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 321 Main Street, Milk River, AB. on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Joseph T. Kalathilparambil officiating.
Private family interment to take place at Allerston Cemetery.
