Isaiah 40 : 31.Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. It is with great sadness and quiet relief that we announce the passing into glory of GLENN (GJALT) DYKSTRA, beloved husband of the late Mattie Dykstra, in his home at Legacy Lodge on March 20, 2020 at the age of 85 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Alice, Derrick (Connie), Betty (Wade) and Bernice (Rick); 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Peter (Nancy), Shirley and Wyke; and brother- in-law, Bill.
Along with his loving wife Mattie, Glenn was predeceased by his daughter, Dena; grandson, Peter; son-in-law, Alvin; siblings, Fenny, (Bertus) and Tina; and siblings-in-law, John, Fred, Catharinus, Annie, Grace (George), Ralph (Theresa) and Walter (Joyce).
Glenn was born in Meteren, Gelderland, Netherlands on October 12, 1934. He immigrated to Canada on his own at the age of 17. Glenn married Mattie on August 21, 1957 in Medicine Hat, AB and they remained together for 59 years until her passing.
Glenn went to school then worked as an auto body mechanic for many years. His last seven working years were spent driving school bus.
Glenn was very active in his church throughout the years. He was a man of great faith and his life was a testimony of his love for Jesus.
Glenn struggled with the effects of Parkinson's disease and lived with physical pain but through it all, remained an Ambassador for his Savior.
We are so thankful to Legacy Lodge for all the love and care shown to our dad, especially the staff on the third floor.
A private family Graveside Service will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, Lethbridge, AB on March 30th, 2020 with Pastor John Van Eyk officiating.
