DONALD MENZO DUHAMEL of Iron Springs, beloved husband of Alice May, passed away the evening of September 9, 2011 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB, at the age of 80.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Armiel Lae Zacharias of Calgary, Alberta, his granddaughter and namesake, Cassandra Dawn Zacharias of Calgary, Alberta, his son, Miles Cameron (Michelle) Duhamel of Edmonton, Alberta and his grandson, Mason Zane Duhamel of Edmonton, Alberta.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Myrtle May Duhamel and Menzo Joseph Duhamel.
In 1957 Donald received his Tractor Training Service Certification from Chicago, and went on from there to his marriage in 1958. In 1974 while raising his family, he obtained a Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Operator (Crane & Hoisting Branch).
Donald believed in helping others and teaching them the life skills he had to offer. He celebrated his 80th birthday with his family and many wonderful friends at a reception held in Monarch, Alberta this past May. Donald’s request was that his family and friends cherish that day, and every day that he spent with any of them, and in keeping those memories alive, there will be no funeral or interment ceremony at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that, if you wish, please make a donation in Donald’s name to a charity of your choice. For those of you that were touched by his helping hand, please honor his memory by paying your helping hand forward.
The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to those staff at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, and especially those at the ICU unit in the McCaig Tower at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Your care and tender treatment of Dad was most comforting. The respect you showed to my father in his final hours made dealing with this tragedy somewhat less painful.
Honoured to serve the family, CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1K 7B1.
