While these are the blood relations he left behind, there are dozens of people and families who called him a father, a grandfather and a friend. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey in 2016.

Doctor Covert, born on June 21st 1938 in Ottawa, graduated Queens University in Kingston, Ontario in the year 1964 and moved immediately to the Northwest Territories, where he began serving the Lord as a doctor and leader in his church community. The legacy he leaves behind includes bringing hundreds of babies into this world, flying into remote communities to serve both the Lord and the medical field in any capacity he was able. He raised a large family and left behind a church family at Parallel Lethbridge that, while not blood, are as true a family as any man could ask for.

Doctor Covert was a man who touched the lives of many thousands of people. He served his communities of Hay River, NWT, and Coledale/Lethbridge area as a doctor for over 50 years. In the many years he served his community, he donated his time, his energy, and his love to anyone he came in contact with, serving in Streets Alive with Foot Friday, The Gideons, and Parallel Lethbridge. He was lovingly known in Parallel as “Doc”, where he served for many years as a door greeter and voice of wisdom.

His hobbies included genealogy research, bird watching, and stamp collecting, where he served in BNAPS from 1972 in various capacities as Secretary of the Society, and Member of the Board of Governors. He also eventually served as Chairman, and President of the organization for a time. He is also known internationally for publishing and editing various catalogs and collectors documents relating back to his joy of postal stationery (stamp collecting).

The innumerable ripples of Doctor Covert’s life and the effect he had on the people around him are not fully known, yet what is known is that he has touched so many lives in such a positive way that his passing has left a hole in the hearts of many. His lasting wish, his final goal was to see the Lord Jesus Christ praised and the Gospel spread to anyone with ears to hear.

A Celebration of Life will be held at PARALLEL CHURCH, 1 mile east of Lethbridge on Hwy 3, on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kelly Stickel and Pastor Ralph Molyneux officiating. The Celebration of Life will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Earle’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

Papa, we'll deeply miss you. As children, you taught us unconditional love and care for others, and though we didn't realize the magnitude of your impact until you were gone, your legacy of love has brought immense joy to countless lives. Thank you for being a role model we grandchildren can admire. Until we meet again, I love you. Please give my heavenly daughter a hug from me. - Nakyta "Great papa, I love you. I cant wait to see you in heaven. I hope you get to have all the swimming and icecream you can. " -Great grandson Christopher

I appreciated his welcoming spirit and enthusiasm.

I first started working for Dr. Covert when I was still a teenager. Even if I had to fetch him from his greenhouse when a patient arrived, he was still gracious he also taught me that every person was equal in the sight of God and deserved to be treated that way no matter their lifestyle. After Don and I married and started serving in the Chapel, Dr. Covert and Audrey became friends and our leaders on the Board. Many years later, after Don died and I remarried and joined Wycliffe Bible Translators, they became prayer and financial partners. In our last visit with Earle and Jean, he still expressed a desire to help make the scriptures available to the Filipino people. His prayerful support will be missed.

It's with great sadness that I write this. Hay River lost not only a great man, and Doctor but also a dear friend. Dr Covert's name comes up all the time when talking about our medical system in Hay River. He held the community together through the medical clinic and the awesome service he provided. It was sad to see hum leave with his family and now sadly to hear of his passing. We loved him then and will always remember him. I just watched the Celebration of his life...what a wonderful service Cindy and Lawrence! He would be so proud of you. Dr Covert, farewell my friend, Jesus has welcomed you home!!

Earle: A humble giant in Canadian philately.

Andrew Chung, Hamilton ON, May 8, 2025

I served with Doc Earl on the Usher Team at Parallel church for a few years and one thing I'll miss is sharing with him how many miles I ran that week. He always asked me that, even by phone if he couldn't physically be there. Great man of God; he will be greatly missed.

Uncle Earle, from the time my family lived in Hay River, NWT was always a constant in my life, as a young girl. I fondly remember him seeking me out to ensure he put salt and pepper on my arm and pretended to nosh away…..weird perhaps, but made me feel seen. Rest in peace with your Lord and Saviour. Thoughts are with his family. Best, Niece Wendy

On behalf of the Calgary Philatelic Society, to which Earle belonged for many years, I offer condolences to the family. Earle was active in the CPS as an exhibitor at our annual stamp show, and was a fount of information about stamps and postal history to us. I well recall the many times we sat around a table with him and heard his fascinating stories about philately. We shall miss him.

As I have become dad’s social media voice, he and I send our condolences to Lawrence, Cindy firstly and then to spouses, their children as well as Jean and her family. Also all the extended family members of the Coverts. Dr. Covert (Earle) touched our family in a profound way and we held a dear spot in our heart for him and his family. Dr. Covert had a big part in the Sub-Arctic Mission and it’s development. We enjoyed great fellowship with him and his family both in the hospital work and the church. God be near to you all as you go through this transition time.

Doctor Earle was a loving man who served the Lord with all his heart. Every Sunday morning, we would see Doctor Earle at the sanctuary doors greeting everyone who came through. His eyes lit up every time he would see me. He would tell me that he missed not seeing me on stage playing guitar for worship. God's speed my brother. Until we meet again. Love you.

Dr. Covert or "Dr. C" as he was affectionately called, was a wonderful doctor, friend and example. I worked with him many years in Hay River. It seems like yesterday that he retired. He left a legacy of kindness, faith and example for others to follow. He has received his reward.

Ruth DuBois, May 6, 2025

My condolences to Lawrence, Cindy and families as they were our friends in Hay River many years ago. But I do extend my condolences to all of the family members. When I was a young teenager we lived for a year or so in Hay River as my Dad (Craig Gibbs) was the general contractor for the building of the Hospital, and our families became good friends. I am sure you will miss your Dad deeply, but oh the homecoming he must have experienced when he crossed over to Heaven!! Take the time to self care as you grieve and hold tight to the great memories you must have of both your Mom and Dad. I will be holding you all in my prayers, especially on Thursday as you say your public farewells.

Wanda Lennox (Gibbs), May 6, 2025
