Date of Service: January 16, 2026

Doug Pinder of Lethbridge, AB, beloved husband of Debbie Pinder, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the age of 84 years.

Doug is survived by his wife Debbie, children: Shawn (Erin) Pinder, Shelly (Jon) Kozub and Michael (Erin) Pinder, grandchildren: Luke and Reid Pinder, Sara, Kaitlin, Jocelyn and Kylie Kozub, Russell and Rhys Pinder, and his sister Linda (Ed) Davis. He will also be lovingly remembered by many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Doug was predeceased by his parents George and Eleanor “Nelly” Pinder.

Doug was born in Fort Macleod on November 11, 1941 and grew up there along with his younger sister, Linda. After high school, he attended the University of Alberta and obtained a teaching degree specializing in physical education. He later obtained a Master’s degree at the University of Oregon. His teaching career began in Granum and he later settled in Fort Macleod. He got to know every student and picked out special nicknames for many of them. He coached lots of different sports and organized various sporting events over the years. His loud, booming voice and cheery personality made him a well-loved member of the school community.

He married the love of his life, Debbie Hutton, on December 21, 1973. Doug and Debbie had three kids, Shawn, Shelly and Michael. They enjoyed so many good times camping, waterskiing, snow skiing and celebrating holidays with friends and family. Doug was heavily involved with scouting as a Cub leader and created lifelong friendships with the other leaders. He enjoyed sharing the funny camping stories for years after. As his kids got older, they got involved with swimming and piping and Doug was one of their biggest supporters. It was lots of fun travelling to attend swim meets and piping competitions together as a family.

Following Doug’s retirement from teaching, he coached swimming and supervised student teachers through the University of Lethbridge. He worked out at the University of Lethbridge weight room every morning and loved to visit with his gym family. Gardening and woodworking kept him busy during the day, and he loved to cook for family and friends. In his later years, grandchildren were his priority and he would often be seen at their various activities. He was a loving Pop who greatly influenced each of their lives.

Doug approached life with kindness and his wonderful sense of humour. He found joy in the little things and always had time to help anybody out. He loved to share meals, stories and many laughs. He was a special person who touched so many lives. He lived every day to the fullest until his passing. We’re so thankful for all the memories.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. with Michael McEnaney officiating.
