MR. DONALD SCHAERER, beloved husband of Mrs. Anne Schaerer of Lethbridge, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the age of 75 years. Don also leaves to cherish his memory, four children: Pam (Doug) Ross, Thor (Nadine) Schaerer, Kurt (Cheryl) Schaerer, and Tara (Clay) Evans, 11 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, his mother Hazel and siblings; Bert (Marge) Schaerer, Charlotte (Robert) Lamont, Lorne (Marlyn) Schaerer, Gloria (Tom) Rounds and Michael (Beth) Horne. He was predeceased by his father Andy Schaerer. Don was born October 11, 1932 to Hazel and Andrew Schaerer in Wynyard Saskatchewan. During his schooling in Wynyard, he delivered papers and worked for Jack Teskey in the general store starting at the age of 12. After grade 12 he went to Calgary and worked for Imperial Oil. After a couple of years he returned to Wynyard where he worked for International Harvester. He then met and married Anne Bjarnason on November 3, 1954. Over the years in Wynyard, Don worked for the Credit Union, Mutual Life & Co-op. He was also active with the volunteer Fire Brigade, was on the library board, acted as a hunting guide, and taught hunter training. In 1974, Don moved his family to Medicine Hat, where he worked for Kulpe Lumber and then joined Alberta Gas Chemicals, where he worked as a warehouse supervisor until his retirement in 1991. His many interests were: camping, fishing, hunting, tinkering in his garage, cards, gardening, working the harvest with Leon, naps & old movies. Dad always demonstrated a huge respect for people and taught us to live without discrimination or prejudice. He had a lot of respect for the elderly. He always had a huge interest in learning. Out of all Dads’ accomplishments in life, he was most proud of his family. Dad you are loved and will be missed, thank you for all you brought to our lives. A private family service was held.
