MRS. DELILA “LILLY” WITZKE beloved wife of the late Edmund Witzke of Lethbridge, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Monday, December 07, 2009 at the age of 84 years.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Klaus Witzke (Bev) Jodi, Lisa, and Sara; Ursula Morrice (Rod) Chelsey, Kara and Kirk Lamb, great-granddaughters Lucy and Maggie Lamb; Doris Prucyk (Richard) Tania, Carma (fiancé Stewart Gemmill); Terri Besplug (Bruce) Kylie, Justin, and Mariah.
Lilly Brokopp was born August 26th, 1925 in Sady, Poland. Arriving Canada in 1951 with her husband Edmund Witzke, her mother Martha, her sister Alice and young son Klaus. She worked in the sugar beet fields and at the Lethbridge Laundry. Later, she worked at the Northside Bakery and still helped in the family Millwork business. She was an active member of the German Canadian Club for many years, as well as Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Lilly loved cooking, baking, cake decorating and entertaining. Her German tortes and Black Forest Cakes, Rouladen and Perogies were family favourites. Lilly was a great hostess and family and friends were always welcome.
Travels to Las Vegas on Mom and Dad’s anniversary were an annual event. For their 50th wedding anniversary the entire family travelled there for the celebration. They enjoyed winter months in Hawaii, trips to Germany, Poland and visiting relatives throughout Canada, playing cards with friends and later the grandkids were favourite pastimes. Mom was proud of her 10 grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. She took great pleasure in volunteering her baked goods for fundraising and loved to work in her beautiful garden. Oma loved to sit in the garden - and the more grandkids there - the happier she was.
Mom spent the last four years at Edith Cavell where she was well taken care of. Loving to play Keno and Lotto and having “special” numbers, it’s not surprising Mom passed away on the 7th, just as Dad did on Aug. 7th, 4 years ago, leaving us a special legacy to remember them by.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, on Thursday December 10th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Richard Brown Officiating.
