Dad was born in Gem, Alberta, on November 19, 1929 to Abram and Anna Hiebert. He passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday. February 1, 2026.
In his early years, Dad attended public school while working on the family farm. The farm was one of his greatest memories and he talked to us about it often. At the age of 16, our Dad had two life changing experiences - the loss of his mother that was so very painful and the joyful decision to accept Jesus as his personal Savior and Lord. This faith of his was unwavering and he lived his life as best described in the Westminister Catechism, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” This was evident to all who met him.
After two years of bible school, Dad returned to farming for a few years before choosing to try his hand in home construction. This would become his career and something he took great pride in, especially when he was involved in the building of the family home.
Work took Dad to the Lethbridge area and it was here that he was introduced to our Mom, Katherine Schmidt. They were married in May 1964.
Apart from work, Dad loved music; he loved to sing and play his guitar. This passion lead him to start a singing group, the Chapel Singers. Every Monday for the next 49 years, Mom and Dad would visit hospitals and seniors facilities bringing music to the residents and patients.
Besides his love for our Mom and the gift of sharing music, Dad had unspeakable joy of being our father - Grace (Martie) Dick, Carol (Trevor) Carroll and grandfather to Caleb and Caden Dick, Levi, Ethan (Nelly), Abby and Isabella Carroll. Family was so important to him and time spent together was always a highlight. In his last few years, he especially looked forward to games night and the treats that would be brought to their home.
Dad is survived by his immediate family, sister Helen, brother Con (Ada), and sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Esther, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Abram and Anna, eight brothers and sisters and other extended family.
We the family, would like to thank our second family at St. Therese Villa for the love you showed our father, husband and grandfather over the last two plus years. He appreciated each and every one of you and prayed for you faithfully Gone but not forgotten. Forever Loved.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor James Schneider officiating. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Dave’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Following the Funeral Service, Dave will be laid to rest in the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.

The Hieberts have been my neighbours/ friends for close to my entire life. My heart goes out to my long time friend Grace, her sister Carol and her mom, Katie, and all their families, as they adjust to the loss of a wonderful dad, husband, and grandfather!!
Thoughts and prayers with all of you. May all the wonderful memories of a life well lived sustain you through this difficult time.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Such a strong and loving family for all of you to lean on. Much love
May God grant you comfort in this time of grieving. Every time I saw him at church he would reintroduce himself and have to tell a story (or joke).
Our deepest condolences to the Dick and Carroll families. An amazing man who I enjoyed many visits with, chatting about those very special grandchildren. Dave will be missed, he made our community a better place. Sending hugs to our friends.
