Dan was a pillar of ASET. He helped shape the association. When I became president Dan was always there to offer guidance and consultation.
My heart felt condolences to Dan’s family and friends. He will always be remembered by his ASET family
RIP Dan

Thanks to ASET for sharing this information broadly. I'm very sorry to hear this news and my condolences go out to Dan's family. Dan and I reconnected through the Southern Alberta Leadership Team meetings through the Lutheran Church (I recognized him as being a past president of ASET). It was a pleasure to work with him there - he was a very thoughtful and considerate person and did the organization much service. He is so missed.

Sorry and shocked to hear this. Dan was my mentor during the time I spent on ASET and CCTT councils. He was highly respected by everyone. When Dan spoke, everyone stopped to listen. Condolences to the family.

As a Past President I have many fond memories of Dan. He became an ASET President shortly after my term was complete. We also served on the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) together. We each attended the ASET and CCTT AGM's and had many great times together. He was a great statesman and will be dearly missed by all.

Dan was a mentor of mine as I went through a bout with cancer. I was a few months behind Diana and her challenge, so Dan was up to speed to help me. A true friend. RIP.

Randy and I are sad to hear of Dan's passing. We knew him through Lethbridge Soccer Association, and he welcomed us with open arms when our son travelled to Lethbridge from Medicine Hat to play soccer. Our condolences to Ben, and all the family.

What a beautifully written tribute that truly encapsulates the essence of Dan. All of us at Integrity Dental would like to send our most heartfelt condolences to Carolyn and family. Dan was such a beloved patient. And not just because he spoiled us and NEVER came empty handed.....a box of Timbits accompanied every appointment! He was always thinking of us and brought a smile to our faces. We so enjoyed chatting with him and seeing his name on our day sheets. Just the sound of his voice had a calming and connecting tone.
He will surely be missed by us all.

Most of my memories are of Danny as a boy, age 9 to 14, during the five-year period that I lived at the Ethier home in Edmonton prior to entering the Canadian Foreign Service.
As a boy, Danny was a delight to be around. He always had a warm and friendly manner which was topped off by a shy, winning smile. Whenever in the presence of adults, he was always respectful, polite and thoughtful.
As he grew older, I had the occasion to visit Dan, Daina, Ben and Sarah in Lethbridge. The children were very young and I was impressed with the warm and loving way that Danny communicated with them.
Then out of the blue during the summer of 2015, Dan contacted me when he learned that I was living in Abbotsford, BC, where I had settled after living in China for nine years.
We met and it was here that I got to know Dan a bit better and gained insights into the outstanding man he had become, starting with the nurturing hug he offered after all those years of separation … the twinkle in his eye as he told stories of memorable events in his life, his warm sense of humour, along with his comfort level in sharing and being open about some of the ups and downs in his life … and, most importantly, his communication style in which his piercing eye contact, his exceptional listening skills and his empathy left me feeling like I was important to him! It was a memorable visit.
To Ben, Sarah and Carolyn and the many others left behind by Dan’s death, I can only hope that like me, your many happy memories of him will hold you in good stead in the coming weeks and months ahead.
Joy McGill (Danny and Jimmy’s cousin; Emil Ethier’s niece).

Dan was a wonderful father, grandfather and had a great spirit. I will never forget our bike ride together! While I was terrified, he made me feel safe. He will be missed xo

Yes, Dan was unique and when he spoke, he meant his words and he was genuine.
He made an imprint in people’s lives. I also knew him through work and through our church. His kids are gems too.
He said when he left the station, he poured himself a cup of coffee and sat out on his deck and just enjoyed the peace and quiet and every sip of his coffee, ....because he could, and he didn’t have to run off to work.
He appreciated life!
My heart is troubled for the family, for his kids, for Carolyn and for their families. Dan was a special man, we have been sharing stories around the Research Centre the last couple days.
Take care everyone, my deepest condolences,
Rena

Dan was such a wonderful force of love, acceptance and always … fun. Dan became a treasured friend immediately upon he and Carolyn getting together. It has been so wonderful to see my dear longtime friend blossom in his love and care.
Dan will be missed by everyone who knew him - he was such a dear force of love connection and caring.
