Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on December 20, 1941, Donna was the second of five children born to Lawrence and Ruth Hicks. In her early years, Donna attended a one room school house at Edgehill, SK, and then Mortlach High School. After graduation, she attended nursing school in Moose Jaw, and gained her LPN license. Donna worked at the hospital in Moose Jaw where she met Charles (Sandy) Currie. In 1966, she moved to Lethbridge and worked at the new Municipal Hospital.

On May 18, 1968, Donna and Sandy were married in Moose Jaw and returned to work in Lethbridge. After their marriage, they had two children, Tracy and Trevor. In 1974, they settled just outside Lethbridge in Diamond City. After taking time off to raise her family, Donna returned to the workforce, painting and cleaning houses for Jorgensen Construction, and then returned to nursing at the Haig Clinic and then the Bigelow Fowler Clinic. She retired from the Bigelow Fowler Clinic in 2013.

Donna will be fondly remembered by many friends who were as close as family.
