Date of Service: August 18, 2025

WHITE QUILLS, Cory Vince. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, dad, papa, nephew and cousin, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family on August 11, 2025, at 11:58 pm., at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge, AB.

Cory was born on July 26, 1974, to Vera White Quills and Raymond Eagle Bear Sr., and the first grandson of the late Paakaakii White Quills who fondly called him Pinnochio. As a baby, Cory received his traditional name from the late Jim Red Crow, Sr. “Naatsika’poinaama’ahka – Two Gun Traveller, that his dad Ray proudly paid for as per our cultural ways. Cory was a real momma’s boy and became the centre of attention with his sister/cousins Natalie, Lorilee, Pamela and Tana, one minute he could be loveable or mischievous and often got his sisters into trouble. He grew up in Saokioohtsi at his grandma Pakaakii’s Ranch where he learned to ride horses and about ranching from his uncles Boyce and Robby-getting him into steer riding. As Cory got a little older, he began to spend more time with his dad Ray, brothers Raymond and Russell and sister Carolyn, grandparents Stanley and Madeline, auntie Virginia and Uncle Mervin at the Eagle Bear Ranch. Cory grew up with all his grandparents, learned some Blackfoot, and valued the cultural teachings. Cory started his education in Lethbridge; St. Paul’s, George McKillop, Westminister, Park Meadows and Allan Watson, later attending St. Mary’s on the reserve, W.A. Day School, G.R. Davis in Fort Macleod and A.E. Cross in Calgary. He attended the Lethbridge Community College for Carpentry; Red Crow Community College-Satellite Campus for up-grading and the Manitapi (youth) Program from B.T. Social Development. He utilized his knowledge and skills and worked in various places: FCSS, Treaty 7 UIHA, Triple M Housing and Integrity Drywall in Lethbridge and Baytek Drywall, in Calgary.

Cory loved sports, and playing hockey at a young age, a game he loved and brought him to many places and championships, under the coaching of Dexter Healy and Uncle Ed who instilled discipline on the players, often you can see Cory and many of his teammates running through the hills in Farm Four, with Tana running beside them. He loved hockey and always had his mom and aunties cheering him on. As he grew older, he played with the Golden Chiefs and played on his uncle Boyce’s slow pitch team the “Prairie Fire.” Cory developed a love for golf, and he would go out on the course with his sister Nat, brother Russell and several friends even though he was sick he made time to go. Cory embraced his culture, singing and drumming with Crow Lodge Drum Group, Bad Boys, and White Feathers, and traveled throughout the province and the United States. His sketches on his woodwork were custom made with cultural designs that he was so proud of. Cory grew up to be a real handsome man, filled with love, laughter, humor and kindness, humble and made friends so easily and loved by many. He took so much pride in his appearance, clothing, jewelry, bandanas and caps, and fixing up his man cave – Calgary Flames theme. Cory left a big void in our hearts but leaves behind beautiful memories.
