MRS. CONSTANCE “CONNIE” COOK, beloved wife of Mr. John Cook, of Lethbridge, passed away at the West Highlands on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the age of 79 years. Connie is survived by her daughters Tracy Cook of Vegreville, AB, and Dana Cook of Calgary, AB. Connie was born August 5th, 1931 in Winnipeg Manitoba, and raised and educated in Flin Flon and Winnipeg. She began a career in nursing at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Connie moved to Stonewall Manitoba as a Public Health Nurse. Connie met John and was married in 1957. They moved to Winnipeg and finally settled in Lethbridge in 1976. She continued nursing in Lethbridge and was the first Director of Home Care. Connie has made an enormous contribution to LFS as well as her community. Having served two terms (1992 - 1997) on the LFS Board, Connie rejoined the Board in 2001 serving almost another term before leaving the Board to join the South Region, Persons with Developmental Disabilities Board. As a retired nurse, Connie has extensive work experience in acute care obstetrics and long-term care, In addition to community health work in Manitoba she was employed for 11 years as Home Care Director with the former Lethbridge Health Unit. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from the U of L in 1982. Connie was a founding member of the Lethbridge and Area Palliative Care Council; was on the Michener Centre Advisory Board and served as President of the Alberta Association of Rehabilitation Centers - now called Alberta Council for Disability Services. As a LFS Board member, Connie always went the extra mile whether she was serving as President for a three-year term, chairing the Public Policy Committee, giving the keynote address at the Home Service graduation or serving as honorary for Brain Injury Awareness Week. A Celebration of Life with be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1K 7B1 on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 2:00pm with Roger York Officiating.
