CHERYL JOHNSTON, beloved wife of Mike Johnston of Lethbridge, and mother to Marcus of Coalhurst and Brianna (Evan) Seitz of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the age of 46 years. She is lovingly remembered by her mother Edith Faye Cheetham of Calgary, three brothers and one sister, Jim (Beverly) Cheetham, Mike (Kristyn) Cheetham and Doug (Colleen) Birch Cheetham all of Calgary, Kathy (Brian) Mason of Williams Lake, BC, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Erv & Joanne Fehr and family and her pets Tazz and Wicket. Cheryl was predeceased by her father Stan. Cheryl will be forever loved and forever missed by her family Friends and all those who knew her. Cheryl was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 22, 1962, to Stan and Faye Cheetham. She was welcomed by brothers Jim, Mike, Doug, and sister Kathy. She was greatly loved by all. And from the day she was born she was welcomed by the Murray family. Cheryl brought a lot of laughter and joy into the Cheetham home. She attended school at Colonel Sanders Elementary School moved on to Sir John A. MacDonald Junior High School and Graduated High School from John G. Diefenbaker High School. She was a bright light in everyone’s life she touched. Her smile and laughter lit up every room she came into. Cheryl, her family and very special family friends, the Dytes and the Simas spent many weekends camping in the Waiporous Area near Cochrane, Alberta. They also spent Christmases and other holidays together. Cheryl grew up with a loving family, brothers who teased her mercilessly, and a sister who has always been her best friend. She met her husband Mike in 1979, while working at Woodwards in Market Mall in Calgary. They were married on August 22, 1981. Cheryl and Mike lived for nearly a year in Calgary, and then in June 1982, they moved to The Lethbridge Area where they began their careers, Mike in Television and Cheryl with AGT. Just over a year later, they took on new challenges in Regina, Saskatchewan. In the six years they were in Saskatchewan, they were blessed with many things. Good friends, and most of all in January1987 their first child Marcus Andrew was born. About a year and a half later they received another blessing. Brianna Marie was born in August 1988. They lived in Regina for a few more years, moving back to Calgary to be closer to family. They lived in Calgary for about a year and half. They were drawn back to the Lethbridge area, to the small town of Coalhurst, where their children went to school. Cheryl and Mike were very involved with school activities as it kept them close to their children. They watched their children grow and prosper in Coalhurst. Many of the kids’ friends called Cheryl, Mom, and children loved to come by the Johnston home for good meals and lots of conversation. Cheryl and her family loved soccer. Both Marcus and Brianna played soccer for well over fifteen years for fun and competition. Cheryl loved to be close to her family, and soccer travel provided the family with lots of trips around Canada. From Kelowna to St. John’s Newfoundland, Cheryl travelled to see her children play. Her real love was always children. She wanted to help children with learning problems and started a new career at Coalhurst Elementary School, as a Teacher Assistant. She went back to University and received her Teacher’s Assistant Certificate. She worked while she was in school and graduated the U of C with honours. She continued her work as a Teacher’s Assistant in Coalhurst, where she specialized in helping children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and other severely challenged children. Cheryl was so proud of her children and family. Marcus continued with his education and his soccer at the University of Lethbridge, their daughter, Brianna, was married last year to Evan Seitz and they now reside in Medicine Hat where she is following in her mother’s footsteps, pursuing a career as an Educational Assistant. At the time of her passing, Cheryl was looking forward to returning to Coalhurst Elementary and continuing on with her career as a Teacher’s Assistant. We cherish every moment we had together with you, Cheryl.
